I am trying to convet an XviD movie to MPEG so that I can write it out to VCD. With DivX files I have always used virtualdub for the audio track to WAV and TMPGEnc to convet it. When i try this with an XviD file I get an error that it cant read the audio in both programs. How do I get it able to read tha audio? or how else can I convert XviD to MPEG?

Yes they play beautifully, in fact they are the best quality movies I have ever found (as far as PC files go). They did not play at first, I had to install XviD and the Nimo pack less the ffdshow codec. I found help for that problem here - http://trendprofi.bei.t-online.de/xvidhelp.htm

So now they play perfectly. I just can’t get them converted to MPEG.

your xvid has ac3 audio which is 5 channel so it cant be read as such in those two channel (stereo programs).
you must save wav from vdub as direct stream copy
change the extension of . wav to . ac3
convert the new ac3 file to wav with headac3he or besweet or whatever
use the new wav as audio source
    convert to mpg
