have an occasional problem when converting avi to mpeg and using virtualdub,
when I start virtualdub and select video source I get a message that there are, for example, 31910 ms of skew, do I want to carry on.
I just carry on and the output file has a noticable lag in the sound and video.
Any advice on how to correct this, have two films that are affected

The warning screen is telling you that its VBR, read what it says !
Audio > full prosessing mode
Audio > SAVE WAV
However, you must check it for bad frames, and so you would use Vdub MP3 and not the normal Vdub.
