I've read quite a bit about higher bitrates for better quality xvcd's so I thought I would go high, something like 1800-2000. When I used the bitrate calculator on this site it told me what bitrate to use given the info I provided. Can I change the bitrate I use and just plug any number I want into TMPGN when converting?

Load a template, then load the unlock template, you can then edit anything you want. But make sure that XVCD's will play on your DVD player, they might not...

Is the purpose of the bitrate calculator to make sure I use a bitrate that will allow me to fit my movie on the specified number of CDs? If I do use a higher bitrate and need to use 3 CDs how do I go about splitting them?

Yes, the purpose of the bitrate calculator is to make sure you use a bitrate that will allow you to fit a whole movie on a CD or a specific number of CD's. You can use TMPGEnc to split MPEG files and VirtualDub to split AVI files.Originally Posted by frink
