In the help files it says ripping directly from the dvd-rom with DVDx may be bad for dvd-rom. I want to know has anyone experienced this problem?

  2. I've used DVDx over 20 times and no problems here.I figure DVDx has already paid for my DVD-ROM($40US)after 3 DVD's so if it burns out my drive I just go buy another.

  3. You better make first a backup to your HD (if you have the space, need 3-6 GIGA!!)

Use Smartripper and select the MOVIE button, select your target (the folder where it has to copy to) and press START.

Now this takes about 30 minutes. Now Open the IFO file with DVDx.

That saves your DVD-player from spinning for hours and hours....

This is very true, too many people have burned out drives by ripping and converting on the fly.

You know, I thought that too. But I'm low on hardrive space. Then I thought, well I can buy a new 40gb hard drive for $75 and then never have to worry about getting a new DVD rom drive. The only reason I was using DVDx was because I ony had about 4gb space available. My new hard drive will be here tommorrow so I can star using smart ripper , virtual dub etc., TMPGenc
I'm hoping I get better quality with the right tools instead of using DVDx. I guess I'd rather pay $75 for the added drive space than $40 for a new DVD-rom. I don't really see any reason for using DVDx if you've got plenty of hard drive space available.

  6. In my experience using DVDx the DVD-ROM is only spinning about 40% of the time(because of the buffer)not "hours and hours",also what's harder on the motor spinning at a slow rate every 2 min. or max. speed for 20 min?The reason I rip using DVDx is I use WinME(4GB file limit)and I've had
"MPEG-2 sample"errors when I rip to HDD first.Space on HDD is not an issue for me either.
I know some of you are snickering at WinME,but why spend $90 on a slower OS where you have to register it with M$just to gain NTFS and some neato eye-candy?

I use WinME too and have no probs with that. I NEVER had i file above 2 GIGA.

And many complain about the ME edition, but it was on my computer when i bought it, with a recovery cd too. So when i have troubles, i use my rec-cd, and voila, after 7 min my HD is as new like the first time.

The starting up of a motor will always put more strain on it, running it all day long wont hurt, but starting it up 50+ times per disk will.
