  1. HI,

I have about 60 VCDs, I would like to convert to DVD and then burn to DVD. What tools do I need to get the VCD ripped so I can burn the MPG to DVD. Please help!

    Thanks,

    BT.

P.S. I have all the MPG encoders I need and CD/DVD burning software, just need the steps in the middle. Thanks!

Aside - you can actually make a DVD with 44.1khz audio using IFOEdit, HOWEVER you can only have one video per disc if you do this. So you either have to useup a lot of DVDR discs or join all your VCDs together.

It's just as faster (if not faster) and a whole lot easier just to de-mux, and re-encode your audio at 48khz. Remember that putting all your VCDs on DVD will NOT improve the quaility. Just give you more 'storage space'

  3. Vejita-sama,

Thanks. Can you also do the following:

VCD -> Raw AVI -> Rencode to better quality -> DVD

  4. No, you can't make an encode any better than your source. GIGO and all that.

The whitebook standard for VCD calls for 352x240 MPEG1 @ 1150kbit/s video. That's pretty piss poor compared to DVDs 720x480 @ 6000~8000kbit/s.

When resizing you pretty much always want to decrease the resolution never increase it. Sort of like taking an 80x60 JPEG and blowing it up to 1600x1400 to use as your desktop

However, going from VCD -> DVD will not result and any lost of quaility either. You'll just be able to put several VCDs discs onto 1 DVDR disc.
