I have encoded many movies into Mpeg-1 format from AVI, but I just got a AVI file that gives me an error as soon as it starts encoding. It says "Illegal floating decimal point calculation order". What does this mean and is there anyway I can fix because I really want to encode this movie.

    Thx

I am guessing the file is an AVI(there is no tag on the end of it). When I went to TMPGenc and tried to do the file again I tried the video just by itself and then the audio by itself. I came to the conclusion that the audio is giving me problems. I don't know how to extract the audio from the video and turn it into a .WAV format. I tried VDub. and I tried the King John's AVI to Wav thing using Vdub. but that didn't work. Is there any other programs out there that could work or any other ways.(I think the audio is AC3, but im not positive). I know im not helping much by not telling what exactly everything is but Im telling you what is says. I downloaded the file off of Kazaa(LotR 2 Screener).

    Thanx Alot

I have 2 comps. one says AVI and the other just says Video clip. The one that says AVI also said the video compression is DIVXMPG4 V3. Could this be why it doesn't work in Virtual Dub?

Video clip is just a description given to types of files, your not seeing the .AVI because you have file extensions turned off.

Open any window and select View > Folder options
Then View, and scroll and find "Hide extensions of known file types" remove the tick and now you can see the .AVI

DivX Mpeg 4 V3 is DivX 3.11 alpha, a hacked codec. Not to be confused with Microsoft Mpeg 4 V1,2,3

It is no use saying, I tried that and it diod not work, you need to say what you did and what the error was..

If TMPGEnc is crashing it could be a few things, VFAPI settings, or bad frames in the AVI.

    Try these
KingJohn's Guide to bad frames V2 VBR Update
    KingJohns Guide TMPGEnc Plug-in
    KingJohns Guide to Codecs V2

I figured out how to do it with one of your guides King John. Thanx for you help. It was the audio, I had to convert it from AC3 to wav and then encode it like that.
