you want best or most compatable ?

the pioneer 343 can play almost anything but they are a throw away item not built that great (better than some though)

i have also (plus a lot more other ones) a panasonic RP82 which so far plays everthing - its built very well and is progressive output -- some (1 each of dvd and cd brand so far) brands of cd's/dvd-r's cause a very slight stutter on playback ..
    every other brand works great

  6. The Kiss DVD player plays all that a "normal" DVD player does plus DivX . It's great, because in a single DVD-R/RW you can store up to 8 movies . It will also play MP3 and OGG.

BTW, I guess this thread will be moved to DVD Players, this is not the forum for standalone players.

  8. Here every electronic store has them. I just bought it last weekend, and I could choose the one that offered the best price. Anyway surely it can be purchased online, and in my opinion it's worth the wait. But be warned that it's not perfect, there are some issues that newer firmwares have fixed; but it still has limitations (like you can't fast forward/backward with DivX, you have to search directly in time).

  10. It works with 110-220v and 50Hz-60Hz. It's shipped without region setting, it will lock on the region of the first DVD that you use (but you can make it region free with a hack). Anyway I wouldn't order oversea this kind of things...

oh ok -- i emailed the company and they said they couldnt ship because of voltage and also it doesnt meet UL or ULc requirments (yet) and also doesnt meet the US crazy RF rules (which are not really as good as CE - but the USA doesnt except CE) ..

i didnt check to see what the voltage is

  12. If you have a COSTCO store is near you (everywhere in Southern California), they have a cheap Toshiba brand, just a little over $70 but it plays DVD-R. My mom has a 60" hi definition television and I've played my DVD-R (not progressive scan) and it looks great. I typically buy cheap APEX players (my friends, brothers and sisters all have them because of me), usually plays all the format, but I notice an occasional skipping. On my friends Apex player (bought DVD movies), I see blocking (little square blocks) sometimes. I tried cleaning his player but he still has them.

I like the clarity of the Sony players but they are a little more expensive. The toshiba is clear, cheap, and plays my DVD-Rs.
