    Check the framrate.

    25 fps is PAL
    23,97 fps is NTSC film
    29,97 fps is NTSC

    It's all in the guides for WHAT IS a VCD or SVCD

  3. Ok, but i'm wondering what app easiest gives this info?
    E.g. i have a file test.mpg. I need to know, is this PAL or NTSC?

    Play the file in Windows MediaPlayer.

    Choose View, Statistics.

    Or right-click and choose Properties in the older versions (or hey, even through explorer without using media player). In the second tab, if the height is 240 or 480, it's NTSC, if it's 288 or 576 it's PAL, if it's anything else come back and ask again!

    Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
