    Hi guys,

I've got a particular avi that the volume goes up & down.

Could anyone tell me the following in TMPGEnc will cure this?

TMPGEnc - Template setting -> Audio -> Use audio edit (check this box) -> Setting -> Change volume (check this box) -> Normalize & set this to 100% ? Will this work ok or is 100% to high?

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't think you will be saved by TMPGEnc. Crap in, crap out. The setting is supposed to make you able to increase volume if it's low on the movie, or let you fade if U cut the movie in the middle. That means about the same as turning the volume up a bit on your speaker. It will double the volume if U set it to 100%, and that is for all of the movie.

But I've never actually tested this out, so I would give it a shot and see what happens. Please post the result.

100% in the normalize window doesn't double the volume, it's relative. If you set it at 100%, this means that TMPGEnc will increase the volume to 100% capacity just before it clips. If it clips because the audio has been turned up too loud, the audio will distort and sound horrible.
TMPGEnc increases it to the maximum volume without clipping (no distortion) so you can have an audio file play on your standalone DVD Player without having to max out your volume on your TV or Stereo just to hear it.
The only way 100% in the Normalize window will double the volume is when after TMPGEnc scans the file after you enter 100% in the Normalize window and TMPGEnc finds the volume at half the capacity it can be at and then sets the 'Change Volume' setting at 200%.

Personally for me, I just set the Normalize value at 98%, this gives the audio file a bit of headroom. I hit enter, let TMPGEnc scan it and then regardless of what the 'Change Volume' setting says, as long as it is not below 100% as this would mean the volume is being decreased then I leave it. If it is below 100% then I just don't worry about using 'Audio Edit' at all.
