I have an avi file (DivX compression) and want to convert this to play in my DVD player (which it does play VCDs).

My question is what is the best setting to use in TMPGEnc, so that the quality is just as good as the avi file. Does the size of the tv set matter? Its a 27" btw.

Here are the specs for the avi file:

58 min, 624x320, audio bitrate 96 kps, audio mpeg3, video framerate is 29, sample size is 24 bit, data rate 135 kps.

VCD 2.0 is the best for VCDs.. but if you want better quality, you might wanna try xvcd or svcd but they arnt as compatable as vcds.

just load a template in tmpgenc.

and tv size wont matter much, but if you have a HDTV then you will definately see that it doesnt look very good as it does on a regular old tv...

    what is VCD 2.0 ?

I did convert the avi file to mpeg using TMPGen just now using a template with the following :

NTSC format, Aspect Ratio 1:1 (VGA), Video type Non-interlaced, Video arrange method changed to Full Screen (keep aspect ratio).

Is that the proper way to convert? Any thing in those settings that I should change for better quality or whatnot?

Then I loaded the mpeg in Nero, and selected VCD. Didnt change anything in there and just burned it. I did however notice before the burn window when I dragged the mpeg file into Nero that the size was set to 320x240 .. is this correct? Even though the original avi file image size was 624x320? This is where im a bit confused..

VCD, SVCD/CVD and DVD all have fixed resolutions. Of these only DVD would let you get away with using that file without any resizing, sorry. VCD is a 352x240 size, which is what Nero _should_ have said. But it's not exactly the best encoder in the world.

To save time I'll say go to the left, look in the green section and pick a button The final size of your film, if you're making an american/japanese format disc will be about 352x160, letterboxed in a 352x240 screen. If you're making it english, european, australian etc, then it'll be more like 352x192 in a 352x288 screen.

    Good luck...
