ok i just got cleaner so i can export to almost all major codecs, but i have a dv home video file edited in imovie which id like to burn on a disk for a few pc friends. what do u suggest the best codec would be, quality is the main issue, as well as ease of use. the file is about 15 mins long and the full dv file is about 3GB. i just want to put it on a disk as data, then they can pop it in their windows machine and easily be able to read it in WMP. whats the best codec for this? i already tried a vcd mpg, works great, but it only uses 150 MB and i think i can do better because i can use much more room than that. PLEASE help me, offer a suggestion! thanks.

I don't think 42 can accept files for conversion, JellyBean. Tolly's file is currently in DV format.

Personally, I would suggest going with MPEG-1. While it's not got as good quality compaired to say a DiVX AVI or a Sorenson encoded Quicktime you can guarentee that anybody can play your file without having to download a single player or codec. They'll be able to just pop in your disc, double-click the video and play it.

lol sorry for all the stupidity but i want this perfect and im new to cleaner and all these options! but how do these settings sound:

    -Video
    Mpeg1
size:320x240 ( it think this is best?)
    highest quality
    NTSC
    29.97 fps
    Interlaced, top field first
    bit rate: 7500
    aspect 4:3

    -Audio
    44.1 kHz
    224 kbps
    Stereo

    what u think?

keep in mind, this mpeg is being written as data onto a 700MB cd-r. if u feel i should change a setting, let me know! thanks

DV is always bottom field first

7500 is a bit high for bit rate ... you could lower that some unless you have lots of room .. or its a shorter clip

sorry meant 750 for bitrate, this should be good for a 15 minute clip.

    is 320x240 the correct size?

and mp2 audio w/ mpeg1 video plays on WMP on PC's right?

do you suggest using extra settings such as gamma or brightness, cause i know i used to have problems with this on OS9 -> PC, but not sure about on OS X, havent seemed to experience it before.

lol that seems to be about everything. if you can fill me in on this i should be all set! thanks!

750 is low /... how about somewhere between 1500- 3500

size is alright .. audio is alright .. mpeg1 audio layer 2 ..

cant say on gamma and brightness -- just make it correct on the mac .. or slighty "to bright" on a mac .. which will look better on a pc (plays darker if people (as normal) don't set up thier monitors correct)

Sorry about the "42" suggestion earlier...Doh!!!!!!
Of course that would not be an option it only and will only do DVD as a primary source. Sorry for misleading you...Guess I wasn't quite awake yet, that or the coffee had not reached my synapses.
