In my experience with rebates I would say I've been paid 66% of what I've submitted.I agree the rebate system is getting better at paying us,but still leaves alot to be improved upon.I wish manufactuers would issue the store credit and give us instant rebates when purchased and do away with this mail-in nonsense.
BTW,I'm still waiting on my Sony rebate check and it's been 6 weeks

Yep, I do too, but that is wishful thinking. The reason that isn't gonna happen is because the manufacturer's would really be out if they issued the instant rebate and then had a customer return the merchandise. I know that maybe a method could be put in place where if a customer returned the product, then they would have the rebate deducted from their return. The problem that this poses is that rebates are often times only offered during a short span. A good example is a 15 pack spindle of Verbatim DVD+R 2.4x disks I got from Best Buy about a month ago. The disks had a $7 mail in rebate for that particular weekend. I went back to get more the following Monday, and the rebate was no longer there. Anyway, the problem is that more and more places, in order to remain competitive, will give customer's a merchandise credit/voucher to "exchange" their product, but they won't give full monetary credit without the receipt. The thing is that if a customer doesn't have a receipt where they were given an "instant" rebate, but get FULL value for an "exchange" someone is going to be out. Either the manufacturer, or the store. That is why there will always be that long, drawn out process of having to wait 8-12 weeks to get your mail in rebate. -

It is always good idea to call them before you send it.
BTW (I/O Magic MIR is on the way too. But I had to call them and sudenly it is all ok)Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
I got an email stating the my rebate was rejected do to an invalid UPC and was informed to send in the correct UPC.
I called up the number listed on the sonyrebates.com site and after going through tons of menus finally got to a point where I could speak to a person.
I told them I already sent in the UPC, but I had a copy of it and asked if they would take that. He asked me what the number on my UPC was (serial number I think) and I read it off to him. It turned out that whoever copied my number into the system left out a number.
He corrected it and my status changed from invalid to processing on the website. It says I should get the rebate in a few weeks.
If you're having problems I suggest calling 1-888-315-4692. -

What that is saying in a round about way...
Now, an UPDATE TO MY POSTS. First, let me say thank you "MORAC" for that toll free number. Next, I want to say that I just called that number and spoke to a guy named "Orlando" who is a representative for the rebates. I explained to him in detail everything that I have basically written on this thread, and also explained I had written a detailed letter saying the same with my rebate submission. I told him the purpose of my call was to try and clear up ANY potential problems obtaining my rebate BEFORE they occurred, and after he heard everything I said, he told me that it would be taken care of and that I ABSOLUTELY would get my $50 Rebate! OKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.....That's what i'm talkin' about! I fully expected someone to give me a hard time, but that is NOT what happened. He also told me that IF by chance there was ANY problem in getting this rebate within 6-8 weeks, then the website would update that accordingly, and all I would have to do is call the same number back and let them know what "ORLANDO" said and there would be notes in the system to ABSOLUTELY get me my well deserved $50 rebate check! So now when the person that processes my rebate submission sees my date of purchase, all they will have to do is to make a simple look into their system, and see that is not gonna be an issue! ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS "SHOW ME THE MONEY!" HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA

Could someone explain me WHY Sony is offering that rebate?
I never heard such thing before actually.
And why is it only valid in the States?

Toshiba SD-M1302 v1006
Philips DVDR885P v1.7/8 -
It is discounting an item to stimulate sales. Since the customer has to fill out a form and mail in for the rebate and wait about 8-12 weeks to get their check, many people don't ever get around to doing it and the company makes more money. Often the customer will do everything right and never get the rebate and if they don't keep good records and copies of the rebate forms and receipts and follow up on their rebates, they can lose their money. I didn't know this was just a "States" thing.

Many thanks to who ever posted about this rebate to begin with, I submitted mine a couple days after I got my drive and I recieved a rebate email a few days ago confirming it was being processed and was approved...mucho thanks! I'll let ya know when I get my check.

Finally after some email battles with rebateshq got my rebate transitioned to VALID.

rebateshq like to play games, but I've played their game and mine and I've won! They said they NEVER got my envelope with my original barcodes and receipt, etc. I sent them a fax, they said they never got that. Six weeks later they were giving me the run around so I asked to speak to the HEAD SUPERVISOR and after it was all said and done, I have my rebate FINALLY, from "pending" and awaiting paperwork, TO VALID and my rebate is in the final stages.
I should receive a rebate check within 4 weeks! Well, it took some effort. Rebateshq like to play games, but in the end my $50 Rebate will be mailed. I'll confirm once I receive the check, but I said in the beginning of this thread that I would definitely get this rebate one way or another, and I got it. It just took even more work then I thought. -
I wanted to chime in and thank who ever gave out the info for the rebate. Thanks to him/her, I got my rebate in the mail on Saturday and I am now 50 dollars richer! HOOORAH! Life is good. Many thanks.

Great News!!! The status of my rebate has change from "invalid" to "Your rebate is valid and is in the final stages of processing and should be mailed to you within the next 30 days." My original submission was on or around December 10, 2002. Apparently I sent the wrong UPC. Was notified on January 29, 2003 that it was invalid and on that same day sent in the remaining two UPCs. I've been checking the status on the rebate website every night since early February. I'd had almost given up hope; but, tonight I saw my status was now valid. It looks like I'm going to get my $50 rebate after all.

My status has been "Rebate Entered On-line, Awaiting Paperwork" for 8 weeks now and I can't find anyone to talk to!!! I sent them several e-mails and I just get a form letter telling me to wait 4 weeks after my submission.
Thanks for the help -

I wrote back and said I don't give a FU*$&K if it's in the form of a monkey's ass as long as it's in US DOLLARS! I told them that wasn't my question and i'm not gonna let them bullshit me. The rest is written in one of my last posts on here...and as they say....the rest is history! Well, it will be within the next two weeks when I have that $50 rebate/postcard in my possession.
I responded to your question in 'PM' let me know how it works out.

well well well....just ONE MORE STEP forward and it appears the last step before I physically have my $50 check.
Here is what rebateshq.com has for the status of my rebate now.
Your rebate is valid and your reward is scheduled for fulfillment. Please allow 10 to 15 days for mail delivery. Thank you. -
Well, I have faxed them the requested documents (they said they never received my paperwork ie. UPC codes and receipt!).
Now they are telling me they did not recieve my fax (which by the way I got a confirmation that it was sent OK)
At their request, I tried to fax it again but lo and behold, their fax machine will not connect I get "bad connection" and it hangs up on me. My fax machine works. I send out quite a few from work.
Defense, please look through your records to see if you can find a number to a human whose ass I can chew on for a few minutes. I'd be willing to lose a few bucks of the rebate if I can rip someone in charge over there a new one.
Oh, and if I get that "your check will come in the form of a postcard" crap again, I may just drive to Miami and throttle someone in person. I'm but 4 hours away. -

I had to send a few faxes and emails and a couple of calls but in the end I received the $50 check a couple of days ago! I know the person has been thanked for posting the original information about the rebate but here's another. Thank you.

Well, Damn:
Your rebate is valid and is in the final stages of processing and should be mailed to you within the next 30 days.
Never thought I'd see that!!!
Defense, thanks for your help. If anyone wants the direct fax number to the woman in charge of re-submissions, let me know. I got it and within 2 days my status was changed.
I really hope my rebate comes in the form of a post card and not a monkey's ass.....
