  1. I capture alot of tv video to display on my laptop and would like to eliminate the commercials.

The video is mpeg1 352 X 240 (I believe) and file size is usually around 2.5 gig for 1.5 hours etc.

I have started playing with virtualdub which seems to be the quickest. Is there a simple way within Virtual dub of just resaving the file after edited? It wants me to choose a compression for the video and audio etc but it was already mpeg1?

Is there an easier way? Premiere seems way to slow.

Thank you in advance video gurus.

It is definitly an mpeg you have there ??? and not an AVI

Although VirtualDub can handle Mpeg's, you would be better using TMPEGnc.

There are guide's on this website that will tell you how to do it.

  4. Thanks for the replies, works fine.

Tmpgenc works fine but was wondering if there was a util that simply left it in its mpeg1 format without the need to re-compress.

Using the wizard lets me choose between 1150 (VCD) and 1850 (low res DVD) but I capture in 3800 custom.

  5. Goto mpeg tools on the file menu and then use the merge and cut feature. Then TMPGenc doesn't reencode the video.
