  1. Has anyone created a detailed step-by-step guide of the process to convert an xvid to an SVCD?? I've tried doing it, but the audio gets out of sync. Obviously I'm doing it wrong and I don't know a whole lot about xvids.

There are several guides on this website detailing conversion processes. I know there are tons of ppl on here that know how to do this conversion properly. Would someone be able to take me step by step through the process so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong??

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks.

  2. Im assuming that you are using TMPGEnc, if so go to OPTIONS and click on ENVIRONMENTAL SETTINGS, click the VFAPI PLUG-IN tab and RIGHT CLICK on DIRECTSHOW MULTIMEDIA FILE READER and RAISE the priority to 1 or 2. that should do it.

  3. I did that and when played on my pc, everything is fine.. As soon as I burn it as an SVCD an play it in my dvd player, the audio is all out of sync.. no idea why...

    anyone?!?!

  4. Have you tried to burn it at a slower speed? Your best bet would be to start at 4x and continue upward until you find the point where it's out of sync. I burn all mine at 4x because my burner is an oldie and 4x is max.

Another options is to try a different brand of media.

  5. Well, I know it's not a media problem. I don't have any problems at all burning anything else besides these xvids... svcd's, vcd's, whatever.. it's just that they're encoded from .avi's or .mpeg's.

As far as the burning speed, I've burned the same source a couple times and it screws up at the same point both times.. so I think I've ruled that out..

I've just found xvid's so frustrating, I don't think there's a lot of information available on how to deal with them.. and it seems like so much stuff coming out right now is xvid!!! That's why i was hoping there'd be an xvid guide with step-by-step directions on how to go from an xvid file to a working vcd or svcd.

  7. Well, I have to agree with you about the conversion to a mpeg from a xvid. I'm able to do it by using VirtualDub. I extract the video seperate, then the audio seperate. On other xvids that were easier, I used VirtualDub to frame server to CCE or TEMGEnc.

During the video extraction, I change the video size to a VCD or SVCD size and save it as a new avi file. I then rip out the AC3 audio and use HeadAche (I think that is the name of the utility) to convert the AC3 to a wav file. I then join them in TMPGEnc as a mpeg.

This may have nothing to do with your prob, but I had samsung DVD / VCR combo & the sound was always going out of sync. To stop this I would have to stop & restart the movie. I eventually got fed up with this & changed it for a Phlips DVD723. Cured all my probs. By the way I use intenso discs burnt @ 52x. So I doubt its your media. Could you try a supposedly out of sync movie on a friends player?
