  1. Hi

I have searched the forum for the answer to the following problem, but did not find the answer I needed, so am hoping someone here may be able to help me.

I have downloaded a couple of avi files and when I play them back either through realone player or media player it plays only the sound and no picture.

When I load it into virtualdub, it comes up with an error saying that I need a vfw codec compatible with windows.

I am running windows xp with a 1.8 p4 processor, a lot of memory and a large hdd.

I have tried loading the avi straight into tmpgenc or nero to convert but they come up with an error saying the file is not supported.

I have downloaded a vfw codec and installed it, but still nothing. I have also tried decompressing the avi using avidecompress, but still only the sound is played.

I really hope you can help as I am now totally lost.

    Thanks in advance

    Scarlet

  2. You are missing a suitable video codec. Find and download a program called gspot. load your avi into this and it will tell you what codec you need. You can then download and install the required codec.

    Hope this helps.

PS, remember, Google is your friend!
