I am considering adding a second udma hard drive to my computer. Can
anyone offer some input on on just what kind of performance
improvements I could expect by having two hard drives. Is it a
significant improvement (much faster mpeg encoding??) or will it be
subtle. I am working on a 2.0 ghz P4, 256mb ram. Would there be more
improvement if I upped memory to 512k.

The speed in converting too mpeg is not as depending on disks, more on CPU. Most likly you have got to buy a faster CPU to get faster converting.
Only thing I found out to be faster while running on two disks is recording from a TV card. For some reason it cant cope with reading the OS and the program from the same disk that it records too. Might be it's a slow disk, but it's a significant speed change while using two disks. -
I use 3 internal hard drives ( 60, 40 , 40 ) exclusively for video work. It's convenient just to quick re-format to restore the HD size after avi file deletion, with no hassle cause the OS is completely separated on the 4th drive.
