I know the requirements say a Pentium 3 or greater is required, but does that mean a P2 physically won't work with the program, or is just not officially supported? I'm interested to try CCE out, but I'm stuck on a P2 CPU

On a P2 a CCE re-encode, albeit faster than TMPeg, will take forever (days probably). I'm running a P4 @ oc to 2.3ghz w/1gb RAM, and with no other processes running I can usually re-encode @ .85 of real time. If I take it back to 2.0ghz, its more like a real time job. I've seen posts of ppl w/P3's that claim 1.5x to 2x real time. I'd just hate to imagine how long it would take on a P2 (which probably clocks out at 500mhz). Also, notwithstanding the clock speed, both the P3 & P4 have the additional SMID registers which are not present on the P2. I'm sure that CCE is coded for these. I've also read somewhere that CCE versions greater than 2.6x are coded for Intel's hyperthreading tech, and users of those systems will probably see a significant decrease in encode times as a result.

I'd say that if you don't want to do anything with that particular machine for quite some time then go for it.

    I1m running CCE 2.5*** on a P2 950 @ 1000
It takes around 5 hours for 1 hour of video what is framseved from vdub and encoded to mpeg2
I usually get the priority level down to normal/ under normal and this way you can still use the machine for ex office, explorer etc

I think that's fair enough if you compare a p4 price with a p2 configs price.

Just tried CCE. Guess it doesn't work. Program opened alright, let me set the settings for the file to be encoded, then when I hit encode it crashed

    the fastest P2 ever made was a 533 .. you can't have a p2 950

  6. How much is a P2 950 going for these days?

I had a PII 366 (i think) notebook, which I would have been happy to leave for days. However, I could never get CCE to run on it. I assumed it was because it was not supported.

As far as time goes, I guess it depends. I do 1/2 D1 from tv captures (mjpeg avi) at about 1.8 x real time. This is on a little PIII 800. Imagine what I could get outa a P4 3gig H2O cooled and oc'd to around 4gig. Then there's the hyperthreading! Sorry about the day dreaming.

  7. I do know that it will not work on a PII 450.
