  1. Ok, here goes nothing....

I am quite new at all this VCD authoring/burning... But I have managed so far to encode a few movies
and actually watch them on my stand-alone DVD player. Hurra!

Unfortunately "a few" is far from all of them...

I have mainly encoded the DivX-Avi movies with the latest version of TMPGEnc.
I encoded them to VCD. My player does not support SVCD.
Sometimes I have had to extract the Audio-score to .Wav with GoldWave because TMPGEnc would not
recognise or accept the source file otherwyse.

I've even managed to adjust the sync when needed, thanks to VirtuaDub.

But.... I have one big problem left that I dont seem to find my way around, so I put my hopes to the
collective wisdom of you guys in the Forum:

I have encoded the following movies and all presented the same fault:

    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    Get Carter
    Dude Where Is My Car
    Traffic
    Gone in 60 Seconds

    ______________________

The problem / fault I get is the following:

    Picture is perfect.
The sound is in synch with lip movements.
The sound is of good quality.

...but the sound is also, how can I say.. choppy? jerky?
every couple of seconds the sound "hicks up" for a second. Just the sound, not the video.

Why is that? What am I doing wrong? How do I fix this?

I've tried different CD-media, different burning speeds too, with no effect.

    Please, please help me out.

Hi don't know if I have been lucky or what, but I have never had a AVI that would not work in TMPGEnc, including those you mentioned above.

I have never extracted the audio, and they have always turned out very good. I don't do anything special apart from check the movie for bad frames, quite a lot of them do have bad frames, and TMPGEnc will lock up on them.

SMR, DivX, Mpeg 4 V1,2,3 ASF, Mov I have had them all and converted them with no fuss.

I know this is no help, but I am wondering if there is a different source of these movies.

Maybe the audio problem is the sync making sure it keeps up with the movie. ie don't loose frames but bring the audio up to match. So the audio is disappearing to keep up with the video.
