also, when i try and play in media player 9 (just updated) it says codec error. What codec? it doesnt say. PLays video fine. No sound also in power DVD. Can play old svcd files that are on CD, but not newly made ones. There shouldnt be a difference right?

I think you'll have to provide more details:
What are you encoding from, and what are you encoding to?
What settings in TMPGEnc?

i'm just taking mov files and converting to mpeg 2
I'm not changing any settings -
when you say mov files, do you mean ****.mov as in Apple/Mac Quick Time format? Have you, therefore, installed the QTreader plugin for TMPGEnc?
Have you tried 'GSpot' (look in the Tools section on the left hand side of this site) to see what codecs your files are trying to use & which (if any) are not installed on your system?
Mats is right - if we're going to help, you're going to have to give some more details.

yeah im useing quicktime and i have installed the reader. It takes the file fine, it just wont put out the sound. When I play it in powerdvd, its reads that it has sound? Alos, I'm at work now and I've got winxp here as well and the sound doesnt work here either? AAAAH!
