Ok, I'm sick and tired of waiting for the Sony baloney unit. I placed my order for it in early Dec from Dell. Can anyone suggest an alternative? I need an external unit USB 2.0.
It's really a shame since all my reasearch pointed to the Sony, but it's a moot point now since you can't even get them and I'm sure some price gouging will go on once they reappear.(If they ever do.)
Oh yeah, Dell conveniently cancelled my order even after I told them not to!
I really need to convert all these VHS tapes to DVD before they fade away completely.
    Help me please! Help me!

  2. they do show up every now and then, you need to search and check often (like the sites that pricegrabber.com points to, NOT when pricegrabber.com says it's available - that's too late!).

moreover, once the X version comes out, it should be a lot eaiser to get then.

Staples.com has a great deal on the Cendyne 4x drive (rebadged Pioneer A105). Howver this is a DVD-R/RW internal drive, not exactly what you had in mind. Still, $250 less $40 off code (www.naughtycodes.com) less $50 rebate shipped free is only $160. Something to think about.

  5. I walked into Frys last night and they were putting about 100 500a and about 50 500UL on the shelf the internal was $349 the USB/firewire was $429 and frys said they had more in their warehouse, so go figure, my brother had no problem getting his directly from Sony in 1 day. The externals come with a free upgrade to recordnow max DX, and it works great.

If you are in the Chicago area you should be able to find one locally.

I found a total of 3 DRU-500A's and 1 external model in Chicagoland area.

Best buy's get them in a few at a time.

I saw one the other night I was in a BB.

I bought one on a weekend with the 10% off BB coupon and if it works will get $50.00 rebate on the drive.

They are just really popular drives, gotta look harder.

I found the $40 dollar off code at naughtycodes.com. I do not know how to use it in the staples website. How do I use this code to get the $40 dollar off discount.
