I have a PII 450, 384mb pc100 ram, abit bh6 mobo (udma 33), 8x DVD.
My friend has the same setup except XP2000+, 256mb PC100, gigabyte mobo (ata100), 16x DVD.
When I rip a dvd using smartripper to a 40gb hard drive on my pc, I can get a max of 1.7x DVD read/write.
I used my h/d on my friends comp (but with the same organisation of 2 hd, 1 dvd and 1 cdrw) and he aceived 10x DVD read/write.
I didn't think mine comp was that slow, but can someone explain where the difference is. Is it purely because my comp is slower, or is there a bottleneck somewhere where I can upgrade ie faster processor, pci ata 100 adapter etc. and if so, what increases could I expect?
Cheers
Dave

Multiple people have the same problem. It seems to be a W2K and cheap DVD problem. I've tried different ASPI drives and can get it to rip at 1X instaed

it rips at 2.1x in W2K....changing asapi drivers will revert it to 1x. Nero and Adaptec have the same result. It als rips at 2x in the native W2K/XP driver ( the non ASPI one ). Even in PIO mode it should rip faster.
4.60 drivers? Where might they be obtained at? I got 4.72 as currentTo Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
I have not tested 4.72 so far but read a few posts that 4.7x brought a few problems to some users...

it's having to decrypt at the the same time it copies the files from the DVD.
Thats why you p2-450 is so much slower then your buddies XP2000.
