  1. I'm trying to usual virtual dub, but when I go to save the wav, it doesn't let me and has this error message:

    "Error intializing audio stream decompression.
The requested conversion is not possible.
Check to make sure you have the required codec. (Microsoft Audio Codec)."

Where do I get the microsoft audio codec??

  3. I suspect that the Virtual Dub error is related to VBR audio.
    (Variable Bit Rate).

I've had a couple of files with MS audio (hacked codecs as it turned out) and Virtual Dub was unable to process or even play the audio full stop.
I found that NanDub was able to do the required edits though so used that.

If the audio isn't VBR then maybe the audio has been encoded with a hacked MS audio codec...
Virtual Dub may think the needed codec is installed (hence the error) but a hacked version of that codec is required.

If you can load the file in Virtual Dub then use the File menu's File Information panel you'll establish the audio compression and hopefully the required codec.

    Martin.

PS Just go to Microsoft's site and search for 'codec download' and you'll find the codec packages for versions 8 and now 9 of Windows Media available for download.
