  1. hello, i am trying to convert an avi (star wars :a new hope) to DVD standard the original fps is 25 FPS w/ an aspect ratio of 640 x 272 (2.353 : 1)...

    1) i converted the avi>mpeg2 in tmpg with the settings of res 720x480 and fps as 29.97.
    2)demux into an Ao3 file and d2v.
    3)converted the d2v to m2v
    4)remuxed and compiled in maestro

now, 15 hours later i am left with a choppy piece of crap with the sound out of sync. my question is this---Is there a way to convert from divx to true dvd ntsc format without getting choppy frames? why would my sound be out of sync, should i make sure that all the fps converting occurs before i demultiplex? the reason i dont just burn the mpeg as an (s)vcd is that im trying to get this to play on ps2 which wont read (s)vcds.
    your help is apprreciated

The reason why your output file is choppy is because you've changed the original framerate (25fps) to 29.97fps without truly framerate converting. TMPGEnc is creating extra frames and thats why your output file is choppy.

You can convert a PAL DivX to NTSC(film) Divx by altering the framerate of the video in Virtualdub and shrinking the audio in Cooledit or Soundforge (and other progs). Search this site for detailed information. There is no direct way of going from PAL to NTSC (and retaining quality).

Once you have an NTSC(film) DivX you dould be able to perform a 3:2 pulldown to convert to NTSC. There are others here who work with these transformations who will be better able to help you.
