Hi there,
I'm new in the VCD world and I've been doing some tests converting a movie from DivX to VCD, so I can view it in my Sony DVP-NS315.
When I use the standard method to convert, i got very poor image, including almost unreadable subtitles. I think that it is because the change in resolution. The DivX is something like 720x352 and the VCD is the standard res., so here are the questions:
1.- If I resize in VirtualDub keeping the res ration, would it be better?
2.- If I convert to a MPeg file with the same res than the DivX, and ignore the Nero Message about resolution out of standard for a VCD, woul it be viewable in the Stand alone DVD?
Thx.

No point in changing the size in vdub, what ever you did would be undone when converted to mpeg 1 VCD.
If you changed any of the settings in TMPGEnc you wont have a VCD, you will have an XVCD, you need to know if your player will Play those.
You should also try to make a SVCD if your not happy with the quality your getting.

My only problem with SVCD is that the res is something like 480x480, or whatever close to that but squared, and for some reason I’m losing some cms on the sides, I got a left & right black borders when using SVCD….is there anyway to avoid this?, because the quality of the subtitles is way better this way.
I’m “frame serving” the file in VirtualDub in order to put static subtitles that I do need.
