    since ffmpegX 0.0.4d (I don't remember exactly), you can letterbox your non 16/9 (let's call them anamorphic ?) movies thanks to the VCD option (which uses mpeg2enc for compressing). I think that's not new

    But in fact I prefered when ffmpegX was using ffmpeg to encode (now it's called fast mpeg1) : it was incredibly faster, and the quality is much better.

    Only problem, no way to letterbox a movie with this option.

    Does anyone have a method to force this letterboxing, either before or after encoding or in ffmpegX itself ? Can this be achieved with the cropping options ? (like some kind of negative cropping ???)

    it seems that the ffmpeg engine (I did not say ffmpegX) is really far from the other engines now (mencoder or mpeg2enc)....
    Fast, but incomplete.
