  1. When converting DivX to *.mpg (VCD) with VirtualDUB frameserving to TMPGEnc, what are the video filters to enable, which can produce the best quality output?
I'm trying to encode with filter SHARPEN and BOX BLUR, but still I can't produce a VCD without boxes in the image. How can I get an VCD image the most look like an DVD image?

    Thanks
    Nuno.

  2. I believe you cannot totally remove the blocks/artifacts. You can just reduce it. You can also try VCD of high bitrate(non-compliant).

Personally, I find the gamma filter of around 60 can reduce the VCD artifacts although it won't eliminate it completely. This has a long technical story why the filter can help reduce blocks. However, some people still cannot present the theory I presented. Anyway, gamma correction won't brighten the overall image but it will just brighten the darker area more.

    Have you ever considered XVCD?

You can't get anywhere near, because of the massive difference in resolution and bitrates used.

Consider XVCD as suggested (which will make much better use of low bitrates) or SVCD.
