This has probably been asked time and time again, but trying to search for the answer is like trying to find the needle in the haystack... I'm using dvd2svcd with TMPGEnc. The length of the movie is 1:58:01. Approximately how long should this take? Also, is the speed of this going to be dependant or semi-dependant upon the speed of your processer?

...and still, there's no answer. It's like "How long is a string?". Everything else equal (method, RAM...) it's almost linearly dependent on CPU MHz.
On my system (P IV 1700), using CBR and MPEG1, it'd take approx 3-3.5 hrs to encode.

    So, let's just say...
    If it's been encoding for...hmm, we'll just pick a number...12 hours...something is wrong, huh?

Why should it? A humble PIII system may very well take that much in the encoding pass. (My time was for encoding only, no ripping. That would add some...)

Well I have an OLD pc. PII 450 with 640ram and a whopping 12gig hd...LOL I had to uninstall and delete most everything on my comp just for this! LOL. But I am worried about how long this is taking! It started the encoding process around 6 pm yesterday afternoon. Of course this is my FIRST attempt ever at ripping, so if I'm doing something right or wrong...LOL i'd have no clue.

Well, with a PII 450, it doesn't sound that far fetched, but maybe someone with a system with similar specs can give us a more exact hint at what to expect. Give it a while more before giving up!

  7. i have a pIII 550 mhz, 384 ram. as we speak im encoding a 1 hr 25 min movie on high quality motion search and it will take 11 hours... if i did the same movie on lowest quality motion search it would be about 4.5 hrs.

take those times then add some because u are on a slightly slower machine

    hope that helps a bit,

  9. I was using my old p2 300 a while ago b4 i got newer machine. It'd take anywhere from 12 - 30 hours to encode a movie to vcd. Man it sucked especially when it was done and you burned it and found out half way it was hooped. Now Athlonxp1800 takes just over an hour for wut i want.

well it also depends on what your encoding to and what reselution your using. normaly for me it takes me 3 hours to make a 90 minute movie in vcd. it takes me it also takes me 4 hours to make an svcd movie that last 90 minutes. it takes me 4 hours to make a cvd that last 2 hours.
maybe its the program your using like i tried to convert a VOB file into an mpeg using tmpeg and it was gonna take one hour just to convert like 10 minutes.

Well if i were you i would try using DVD2SVCD believe me its the best ive seen. i always make cvd and to get the best quality possible i would get a bitrate calculater. cause you know how sometimes you make a movie and then like on the 2nd disk you just have like 100 megabytes used and theres 700 not used well what you can do is just enter the lenght of the movie and you put your audio bitrate and the number of cds you have and it will give you the max number of bitrate you could use to fill up the whole 3 cds with excellent quality. but i usually only use 2 cds. i am conservative of cds. like the other day i ripped B.A.I.T it was 2 hours long i ripped it at 1,700 kb for video and 128 for audio and believe me even that looked good and thats 2 hours on 2 cds. theres shorter movies which will give you better quality. oh and if your not familiar with DVD2SVCD then let me tell you this you can add 2 different audio sources like you know how some dvds have 1 language in english and another one in spanish well you can choose to rip both languages and when you burn the CVD on your dvd remote control you just press audio and will swich to the secendary audio source. so i think thats pretty cool well any ways laters man
