that capturing with VirtualDUB is quite low quality? The video seems to play a little slower (not by much, but JUST noticeable) than if you record through a ATI card with video in.

I have followed the online guide to recording AVI.

    -Using the YUY2 data format
    -Using the PICVideo MJPEG Codec

Does anyone know a better way to capture avi files? This quality is not up to my standards.

I haven't noticed this at all, with a ATI AIW Radeon 7500 and the HuffyUV codec. I actually prefer to use VirtualDub, with it's avi editing features and filters being a big plus. I use the ATI MMC only on the rare occasion that it can do something, or be configured in some way that VirtualDub cannot.

Is there any chance it might be the PicVideo MJPEG codec, you are using? I would suggest you set it on a quality level of 20 (I believe that is the best for that codec) and then compare results. I believe the PicVideo MJPEG codec is a "lossy" codec, where HuffyUV is a "lossless" codec. You may also want to try/test with the HuffyUV codec.

    Hey,

Yeah you were right, the codec I was using was causing the slowness, it was encoding a 15fps instead of 29.97. LOL

    my bad!
