Hey,
This may sound like an odd question, but would any of you think that the Sony DRU-500A could cause hard resets in a system? I replaced my old TDK burner with the Sony Burner and now the system will randomly hard reset. I know that the master/slave configurations are setup properly. I also upgraded to the latest firmware with no hiccups and taking the burner off UDMA beforehand.

Is it possible its drawing to much power from the power supply. I would try plugging a different power cord in from the powersupply
-
I thought that might be a possibility, but I wasn't sure since I didn't add an additional drive, replaced another drive where the system was functioning perfectly. I didn't know if one CDR/DVDR drive could draw more power than another.

johnevb,
I'm curious - what exactly were you doing when it rebooted? I experienced an issue with the bundled version of Recordnow when I tried to use it to erase a +RW disc. It caused a soft boot and did something to my Win 2k OS that caused windows NOT to load. -
Hey Coop,
I don't know if you're still gonna check out this post. But the system will randomly reboot, regardless of what I'm doing, using the drive or not. I haven't installed any of the bundled software, I've just been using DVD X Copy, and Nero. -
Some are reporting that it's a hardware issue. I only experienced it once. What version of firmware are you running?
-
I have seen this happen under 2 different circumstances. The first one is with a via chip set. I would make sure all my drivers are up to date, especially the motherboard and video. Lastly, the power supplly. Depending on your configuration, it is possible the system in being under powered. Even the best 400watt power supply may not put the power out on the ports your need. I search the internet regarding power supplies. I know Toms Hardware has had many topics on this. You could also simply have a faulty power supply or device. Try a different power supply.
good luck,
