  1. I have an .avi [Xvid] file that seems to have a little glitch or two in it. I think this is from when the file was cut off and resumed in download. I know there is a way to merge or repair mpeg files, but is there a way to do this with .avi? I am trying to convert the file to mpeg, but when it comes to this glitch the screen goes blank. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kirsti

  2. download a simple app named avi fixer and run the avi through that and it should be fine.....it is also good for fixing avi files so you can view them in media player or to be able to convert the parialy downloaded or damaged avi file....when you use this app you must copy the file that you want to fix to a different directory as when it is fixed it will no longer be able to be resumed by a download manager or the p2p network.....hop i helped some...byez

  3. Thanks for the tip. I sought a file called 'avi fixer' and came up empty handed. Do you know of a specific location to acquire this program? Thanks a bunch for your help!

    Try DIVFIX. it is also located in the TOOLS section at the left of this message. Just scroll down and look for it.

    If you are really adventurous, you can try the Nimo Codec Pack. You can view just about any video file after installing it AND use some of the codecs to capture with, IF you have a capture card. It also includes DivFix.
    BUT, you can get it by itself also.

  5. Thanks so much. I found the program [though I couldn't locate it in the 'tools' section]. I'm using it, but not really sure what to do with it. It shows me the errors;

    ie;

    Corrupted data detected at frame 11271
    Error offset: 58339528 ($037A30C8)

    But I'm not sure how to go about getting them fixed as the software seems to have come with no instructions lol. Thanks for all your help.

    Try this:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/135552.php

    Make sure you read it very carefully. All the tools/apps are found again in the "TOOLS' section to the left of this message.

    When I first used them I fumbled around with them. After a few times around though, I figured it out.

    ALWAYS make sure you have a *COPY* of your original file. Anything that you change with your file, especially with DivFix, will corrupt it to the point where you will have to get it again.

    Goodluck
