  1. Ok I just captured 2hrs of video from my camcorder using ADS Instant DVD, I set it to mpeg-2 at 5mbps 720*480 resolution. Mpeg-1 layer 2 audio 48Khz. The file size was 4.6GB. I used DVD-it to create a very simple menu and when I went to create DVD it said it was too big How do the DVDs that I buy from the store fit a 2hr movie plus a bunch of extras on it with better bitrates, better quality audio?? Im capturing at 4mbps with 48Khz PCM, I'll see how that goes. If anyone has any tips on fitting a 2hr movie onto a DVD-R it would be greatly appreciated.

  2. The dvd's in the shops are 9 gig , we can only burn 4.3 gig. So basically you can fit as many minutes on there as you want but the bitrate will get lower and lower. I got 3hours on one , but the bitrate was 2800, use a bitrate calc selct how many minutes you want to fit on, and then rempeg your file to that bitrate.

  3. You will be able to fit alot more video if you use MPEG audio (or better ac3 audio) instead of PCM. DVDit might allow you to convert the audio. Low end programs like MyDVD insist on PCM limiting the video amount severely.

I am capturing Video8 at half D1 352x480 VBR 4400 ave 8000 max MPEG audio and can capture 2 hours to almost exactly 1 DVD (4.7G at 1000 K or 4.38G at 1024K =kilobyte) on my PVR250 hardware cap board.

The bitrate calc on this site is very important to judge your results without many burns
Panasonic DMR-ES45VS, keep those discs a burnin'
