Hey, looking for a good DVD player to buy don't know too much about them. Obviously I want to be able to get rid of the macrovision. DVD, X/VCD, X/SVCD, CD-R, CD-RW are necessary as I burn my own X/VCD's and hopefully X/SVCD's soon. Weither marcovision is decoded already when bought or can be hacked (perferrably a easy and stable hack) doesn't matter really. A player with good stable picture and sound on the different formats and hopefully supports many cd colours. I am a student so cost is a factor. So if people can post the players they find to be the best that would be great. Also can APEX Digital 1500 be hacked? Can get them cheap but can't find a hack as of yet.

So far the Sanyo DWM-370, The most recent JVCs, and the Apex HDCD DVD player. Here is a link to my mini reviews:

I recommend the RCA RC5240P. Although I haven't found a macrovision hack yet. Check it out on list to see all the comments.

I've got a Philips DVD711. It can be multi regioned by a simple hack. Plays every colour CD I have used. Plays X/VCD,X/SVCD, DVD and both CD-R and CDRW. Supports DTS. Dolby Digital, TruSurround and Multi Channel MPEG audio.
Great picture quality as well -
Thanks pacmania. Can you turn off macrovision with the hack? How much does it cost (US or Canada $)?

The lowest-cost player I'm aware of that can definitely be hacked via CD (meaning that you don't have to buy a replacement chip) is the GE 1101P, which is about $129 at Walmart. You can hack it using firmware from an Apex 703. The following page explains everything:
http://www.dvd-wizards.com/darrenk/Shinco/GE1101Ppatch.htm
You might want to wait to apply the hack - someone on the GE Yahoo Group is customizing the 703 firmware so that it works more efficiently with the 1101P - it should be available soon, however. The GE Yahoo Group is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/5803
You could get an Apex 500W from Walmart for $98.86 and buy a replacement chip (Macrovision turned off, Region selector) from Dale Willis (dlw@iname.com) for between $15 and $18. Dale is very honest and reliable - ask the people on the http://www.nerd-out.com forums about him.
The Apex 660 is sold at Sam's Club for $120 and you SHOULD be able to hack it via CD to turn off Macrovision and get a region selector. (I say "SHOULD" because there might still be a few of the older versions floating around that aren't hackable via CD.) Read the "660-9MM" section of the following page:
http://www.dvd-wizards.com/darrenk/660/660patch.htm
No hack yet for the Apex 1500 (and I doubt there ever will be). Same goes for the 3201, which is completely different than any other Apex player out there. -
Had some good experiences with the Revoy 2200.
Plays also MP3.
Anyone any suggestions for a better one that plays everything (DVDR, MP3 etc.) I am not concerned about costs as long as it plays everything and with good quality.
Regionfree, Macrovision free, CDR/CDRW/DVDR/MiniDVD and MP3. In other words.. What is the BEST DVD player at the moment for this all ????
