I am a newbie to capturing. I want to upgrade my motherboad and processor, but can't decide between the nforce2 or kt400 chipsets. I plan to purchase an AMD 2100+ processor. I will be using a ATI AIW Radeon 7500 for capturing. I have read through this forum and can't seem to get a definite answer on the merits or disadvantages of these chipsets. Anyone using these with success or problems, please help.

    Regards,
    Stevo

  3. NForce 2 is the best chipset out for Athlons currently. If you plan to get it, you have to get two sticks of ram to benifit from the dual ddr feature that it offers. So if you are planning to get 512mb of memory, get 2 sticks of 256mb. Kt400 is a decent chipset, but its performance is lacking. If you plan to get kt400, save yourself some money and get kt333 because its speed is about the same. The only reason that nforce2 might not be the best option for you is if you need money. Nforce2 motherboards are >$100 but kt333 can be found for <$80. They are both stable chipsets, its just one offers more speed and the other offers a better price. In either case you have to get good brand name memory for it, don't get the el-cheapo brands thats all over the ebay. Get micron, corsair, samsung, etc. Generic brands can perform poorly and if your unlucky, cause compatability problems. Oh if you planning to upgrade to the barton core thats comming out the middle of this year, get nforce 2 with ddr400.
