    i can't seem to play AVI files that i got from the web. i loaded them in Gspot and got these error msgs:

    Direct show wasn't able to play the file
    Error#: 0x00040257
    Error Name: VFW_S_VIDEO_NOT_RENDERED

    - no suitable decompressor can be found

    other details:

    video format: S-Mpeg 4 version 3; 4CC MP43
    audio format: divx (same as wma) (0x0161) DivX Networks

    thanks kingjohn. im able to play the file now through Divx Player 2.0 Alpha. but still can't open it in WMP. it can't determine both the video and audio codec used. im lost.

    Will it load in Vdub ?

    File > File information ?

    Will it load in TMPGEnc ?

    Did you test your system, found they all played ok ?
