  1. I have a newbie question. I have an avi (presumely Divx) file size 431MB. It has DiVx 3 Fast Motion (I think) codec with aspect being 352 x 240 and bitrate of 662 kb/s for the video. The audio is mpeglayer 3 (mp3) with bitrate 44 kb/s CBR and sampling of 22,050 Hz.

Here is my problem. I tried buring it to 1 cd and it cant fit. Can I make the avi smaller so that I can fit it to 1 cd. I dont really mind loosing some pciture/audia quality as the original quality isnt that good to begin with. Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thank you in advance.

What are you trying to do?
If you are not gonna encode it to vcd then you should be able to fit 1 CD and how long is your movie?

I guess you are converting it to mpeg 1 for VCD and now it wont fit on a CDR !

I read the page and I still dont understand what I need to do. When I convert my avi file to mpeg, the size becomes 800MB++ from 431MB. I cant cut any part of the movie. I hust hoping I can make either the avi or meg file smaller by resizing it somehow. Anyway to do this?

Ok, well if you want it on VCD you wont be able to do anything with the AVI, what ever you did, would be undone when converted to mpeg 1 for VCD

The AVI is compressed to Mpeg 4, when you convert it to VCD you convert it to Mpeg 1, which will double the size, that is normal.

If you cannot cut any of the movie, then you will need to split the 800Mb file into two 400Mb files and make two disks.

If you change any of the settings in TMPGEnc to make the file smaller, that will be an XVCD and may not play on your DVD. But even if it did then the quality would be lower.

800Mb is not far off, but next time you may have 1Gb what then ?
Read the splitting guide, or cut some of the movie to fit on 1 disk.
