I have a 2 pc network at home. My host machine has my pioneer a03 dvd burner. It also is the source for internet sharing. My question is if i do some surfing from my client while the host is burning a dvd would it cause any problems. I could but my burner in the client machine but that would be to easy, i like doing things the hard way!

In theory no, but this is a matter of some debate/personal perference. I don't like to do anything with my PC while burning discs (CD or DVD) others do and have no problems.
