I'm currently working on upgrading the dvd media list with help of the forum member Mr zippy.
    • DVD+R and DVD+RW will be supported
Media reliability rating and dvd-rom,dvdplayer and game console reliability rating.
      DVD writer firmware used
Better moderating, removing bad reports and such. (Mr zippy will help).
Better listing, search on media name, media code

    New media report form
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdmediaform2.php?addnewmedia=1

Using nero cd speed to get the media code(manufacturer id) instead of advdinfo...but I'm not sure how well it works with all media...
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdmediaform2?advdinfo=1#advdinfo

Can you with dvd-r and dvd-rw test nero cd speed to get the "media code"?? what does it say under code if you run it?
How to use nero cd speed to get dvd media code.

  2. I think switching to Nero CD Speed for information is great.
I also think the DVD Media code should only come from Nero since many users don't understand how to read ADVDInfo.
I would still like to see the raw ADVDInfo (or something like I proposed privately using my utility) because there is additional information buried in the hex data.
For example, there are several media that are identical except for the DVD Media code and this can be determined by viewing the raw info.

The problem is that nero cd speed doesn't seem to report same as advdinfo. Can anyone test nero cdspeed with dvd-r and dvd-rw? and compare it advdinfo?

  4. Hi Baldrick,

I was checking out the form and it looks great but I want to make a suggestion. I have found out from countless hours of research on this forum and others as well that when it comes to media testing, a lot of users does not necessarily use up close to the 4.3 GB threshold. The problem I have with that is that it does not constitute a fair test as there are quite a few movies out there that are close to 2 hours and usually they cause problems on the outer edges of cheaper DVD media. Is there a way for you to address this in your form as well, that way when readers look through it, they know the media is reliable and the quality is consitant throughout the disc from the 1st bit to the last.

I think some users tend to report their media as being good if they can play back but we do not know whether they tested with a 10 minute movie or 1 hour movie or a 2 hour movie (which tends to fail creating choppyness and pauses).

    Thanks!

  5. Will a function to report the user comments that are incorrect be added later? There are already some comments in the wrong place (like a comment about Intenso DVD+RW here and comments about Verbatim DVD+R here).

  6. I'd like to see a spot where u could post pics (shrunken down) of cd-speed graphs and also Kprobe c1/c2 error graphs so one could get an idea of how most people are doing with the discs (and if it was more a media issue than a burner issue for some people)

I recently took a huge chance and ordered a spindle of the cheapest media from the DVD x store ( the site that sells DVD x Copy ) and though it was dirst cheap and basicaly nameless media, i thought, what the hell,,, and bought some anyway. Well, I don't know if it's my particular DVD burned ( Matchita DVD-RAM ) that came with my Gateway or just that the "DVD" stars and planets are in perfect alignment but I've burned a total of 12 perfect burns of movies without a single problem, and guess whata??? They actually play on ALL my players ( I have 7 players-all makes and types ). Nedless to say, I'm shocked. The price for this particular batch was like $24 for 25 disk spindle. I also bought some from EBAY ( they look identical ) 50 disks and 25 double disk boxes for $46 + S/H totaling $56.00

I'm just waiting for failures but I've now burned 12 movies.

What's going on?? What am I doing right??
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
