I have done a LOT of SVCD & VCD, and I just put together a new machine to do it better. It's an ASROCK G-Pro, 1.8 GHz P4, tons of RAM, Samsung CDR/DVD that works fine with 90 minute media, and importantly, an ASUS V7100 Deluxe Combo. I put XP-Home on the box, using NTFS. The box captures fine with the ASUS (Nvidia) in AVI, and the new driver does a VERY NICE job going MPEG-II at 5.5 Mb/sec for DVD authoring in real time. I never thought I would be this happy with real time, but it works fine. Problem is, I can ONLY capture at VCD or DVD (or AVI). If I capture AVI or DVD, I have to convert to 480x480x2.3Mb/sec, and this box takes about 4 hours to convert. IF I could change some parameters to capture directly at SVCD I would be very happy indeed. ASUS isn't the author (nor do they give much support... took me a week to find the right driver for the DVCR) and Nvidia says talk to ASUS. Any suggestions?
