I have heard people advise against this. I am capping to a partition on the same drive as my OS, and am dropping a few frames here and there. P4 2.4GHz, 7200rpm, 1GB ram.
Is this my problem? it seems to be okay when I do this on my other computer, which happens to be a little less powerful. Help!

If you're capturing to the same partition as what your system drive is,(eg:C drive),then yes. If its a different partition on your primary drive, then thats better, though a 2nd HDD is always ideal.
What sort of % of frame drops are you experiencing? -
1 in 40 frames about.
Both situtations are using Virtual dub (Huffy compression) at 704x480 Resolution.
Describe a little more how you are capturing, and we'll figure this out. If you are capturing with Virtual dub. Make sure you are using "capture video" mode (f6), and not "capture video (compatibility)" mode (f5).
You shouldn't be dropping any. -
