  1. GoBama,

Thanks for the recommendation...the install of ASPI worked...testing as installed and functional; however, that's not the problem. Neither RecordNow 4.5 nor the latest Nero Demo will burn to a DVD-R.

Nero reprots thusly when it fails to burn...

RecordNow Max reports as follows when it fails to burn...

RecordNow Max will burn files alone but not files and their associated folders (i.e., folders containing the files). It bombs out before the burn really gets underway. I'm going to try just the files in the Nero Demo now. What's one more coaster. I'll report the results.

  2. Nope!! So d**ned frustrating. System operates flawlessly otherwise: nary a hitch anywhere except for burning. Plays movies fine through WinDVD or Media Player. Writes to DVD-RAM through DirectCD.

    Burn burn...No way!!

  3. Well, I tried my first dvd2one experiment with Alien. It looked pretty good, however there were a few dark spots that I saw very minimal and very brief macroblocks. Alien is a 117 minute movie.

I'm currently encoding Aliens (154 min) with TMPGenc. I will then do the same with DVD2one and do a screenshot comparison. I'm guessing any movie over 2 hours is where you will see a breakdown, since about 2 hours is the cutoff for DVD quality encoding.

If I do see excess macroblocking on Aliens, I may stick to TMPGenc for all movies over 2 hours and DVD2one for all movies under 2 hours.

I'll try to post some screen shots on which program re-encodes a 2+ hour movie better. Believe me, I hope it's DVD2one!

By the way, I'll be using my computer for comparison since my 36inch TV is a little old and I can't tell what is dvd quality problems and what is TV quality problems. But soon...I will have a 47" widescreen 8)

  4. One quick think I want to mention..... DVD2ONE is the only all in one program I know of that can transcode and author NTSC movies in one package. DVD2DVDR with CCE would certainly have more use if IFOEDIT could handle NTSC authoring better.

Second, Have any of you ever run into a wierd problem with Windows XP Pro where it wont see your CD / DVD drives no matter what you try? I have had this happen to me on several of my workstations but have yet been able to nail it down to a package I installed or a known bug. And with 10+ hours of looking for a fix I am resign to the fact I have to reload the OS to get past this. Any info / fix is very welcome!

  5. Deadman I have seen this. Try and go to the control panel and select administrative tools. Select computer management and goto the disk management. See if its still listed and if so assign a drive letter. See if that helps

  6. aaron10, hmmm that is strange. I can't think of any reason why NERO or RecordNow MAX will not work for you I wish I knew what to tell you to try, but I don't. Let me look something up and see if I can find any information on what could be causing you this problem.

  7. You mentioned you wrote something on DVD-RAM through DirectCD? I assume you have Roxio EZ CD Creator installed? You might try uninstalling the Roxio program, because there could be a conflict betwen that along with NERO and RecordNow MAX. Keep us posted. Best wishes 8)

  9. Well, I don't have screenshots yet, but my test on ALIENS showed that using TMPGenc to reencode (to dvd) beat DVD2ONE hands down. The compression is much much better.

You do, however, pay for that compression. It took 12 hours to re-encode Aliens. Worth it? I think so.

But, as I mentioned before DVD2one did a great job on Alien1, which was less than 2 hours.

Until the compression gets better, i'm sticking to tmpgenc for all my 2+ hour movies.

The only element of the Roxio software that runs at startup is DirectCD and I tried disabling it but I was still unable to perform a successful burn. I'm just not sure where to turn for a solution. I have seen a few others with a similar error in RecordNow Max at the Stomp site but I haven't read any successful solutions as yet. If anything strikes you, feel free to recommend... Thanx!

  11. Many people are posting about qualtiy differences and worried about how thing will look on HDTV's. Based on tests I done yesterday (I still have to do more extensive testing) I see almost no difference whatsoever on any of my sets which includes my 99" projector. In some scenes it will appear more grainy, but that is usually about it. I will try to do more testing with other films, but personally I think this is damn near perfect for the time that it takes.

  12. I need some expert advice here on the whole process for start to finish, can someone make a guide for this. The reason is a few of us that don't have the indepth know are having problems. After reading all the threads I have still not gotten the DVD-RW to burn right. This is what I'm doing:

    1. Using DVD Decrypter to rip DVD using file mode, here is what the files look like after ripping:

    VTS_01_0.IFO 82 KB
    VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,424 KB
    VTS_01_2.VOB 1,048,280 KB
    VTS_01_3.VOB 1,048,538 KB
    VTS_01_4.VOB 1,048,442 KB
    VTS_01_5.VOB 1,048,502 KB
    VTS_01_6.VOB 1,048,208 KB
    VTS_01_7.VOB 543,024 KB

    2. I then take DVD2one and load the Source Directory which is C:\PITCH BLACK\VIDEO_TS, and set the destination folder and start the transcoding process and here is my completed files:

    VTS_TS.BUP 6 KB
    VTS_TS.IFO 6 KB
    VTS_01_0.BUP 68 KB
    VTS_01_0.IFO 68 KB
    VTS_01_1.VOB 1,048,574 KB
    VTS_01_2.VOB 1,048,574 KB
    VTS_01_3.VOB 1,048,574 KB
    VTS_01_4.VOB 1,048,574 KB
    VTS_01_5.VOB 382,282 KB

    3. I take the above files from DVD2one and have tried loading them into several of the burning programs which I have and here is what I get for each:

Nero 5.5.10.0 with DVD plugin, Nero shows both the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders already there, moved DVD2one files to VIDEO_TS folder and started burn using Pioneer DVD-RW disc, takes about 1 hour to burn, after burn tried DVD-RW it both Hitachi DV-P505 and Apex 660, DVD-RW show that a DVD is in tray but goes immedately to STOP.

Using PrimoDVD 2.0, DVD date function load files to window, load DVD-RW to tray, press go, DVD-RW burns to about 88% then locks up, have tried it 3 times with same result each time.

Using RecordNow DX, using same method as PrimoDVD, get error messege half way through burning process.

Using Ulead DVD Factory 2.0, the files will not load, shows not enough disc space available.

So you can now see my dilemma, I lost at this point as to why it will not burn correctly. Can someone shed some light and show me a detailed step by step guide to creating DVD-Rs correctly using DVD2one.

    Here are my computer specs:

    Windows XP Pro w/all updates
    Abit KT7a-Raid Mobo
    1.2 Tbird/266fsb
    768mb of Mushkin PC133 Rev2 ram
Pioneer A04 DVD burner w/1.31 firmware
4 80gig WD Hdds one dedicated to video capture and encoding

    TIA,
    Zorin

For starters, if you are going to use Nero DO NOT use DVD Video mode, there is so kind of bug in nero, use the UDF/ISO mode and then just insert the VIDEO_TS folder and burn. Also I have had problems with the newest version of Nero I would reccomend using 5.5.9.17.

As for the burning programs I do not know, I have tried RecordNow Max and it seems to work fine, I have only tried it in the Wizard mode, I will probably try using it in advanced as it seems to go through and verify everything when in wizard mode and ends up taking twice as long.

Okay I will see if I can help. This is how I tested this software.....

    First I use these programs

    DVD Decrypter
    DVD2ONE
    RecordNow Max
    Nero Image Drive

First I set up my Folders

I have Three drives I use

I load the three programs on my os drive say C:

I have a SCSI raid Set as drive D and another set as E

    I make a folder On drive D called VIDEO_TS
Then Make a short cut to the desktop for this folder
(makes it easy to delete files when I am done Burning)

I make a Folder On drive E called DVDISO
(This is were I put my ISO's)

Last I make a shortcut to the Imagedrive Icon on my desktop
(makes it easyer to get to, that way u do not have to goto control panel)

Okay I am set now First
Use DVD Decrypter ISO mode and read Store in my E:\DVDISO folder
(I do this incase the output of DVD2ONE is not good I still have the intire movie to split into 2 DVD's)
Next I load the ISO into Nero Image Drive
(now the system thinks I have a DVD Video loaded)
Next load up DVD2ONE and for Source Directory I pick the DVD Drive and got the VIDEO_TS folder
Destination Directory is D:\VIDEO_TS (remeber we made this already)
Now hit next If u got a supper machine and super drives should take about 7 to 15 Min.

Last I open Up RecordNow Max use wizard make Data DVD
Will ask for disk if not in yet, insert disk goto next screen it ask for folders or files I simple click on the D:\VIDEO_TS folder then click next and burn baby burn.

When done if the quality is not good u still have the complete ISO to use with IFoEdit or DVDXCOPY for a perfect two disk back up.

I hope this helps u, And I hope I did not leave anything out, If so someone let me know so I can get it in before I screw some new High Speeds up.

A lot of people will tell u to have a AUDIO_TS folder but it is not needed at all, Some of your DVD's u will make copys of do not have it so trust me not needed) I have been making DVD's for years (my job required it, I made train the trainer DVD's), and never put it in. Will not hurt to put it in but no reason will never in the life of the DVD age ever have a problem if u do not put it in. Just your super programs that the pro use put it thier.

I have tested this on the following Movies
The 10th Kingdom (if u know this movie u will now how long it is)
    Resident Evil
    JurassicPark III
    MIIB
    StarWars II
    Signs
    Armageddon
    AI
    Happy Gillmore

  16. If you want to use RecordNow MAX or PrimoDVD to burn your movie, this is what you do. Open the program, choose File, New job, Create Data Disc. This will bring you to a screen where your reader/writer drive or drives is listed. Make sure you create 2 folders in the dir of your movie files that dvd2one adjusted for you. VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. Drag the .ifo,.bup, and .vob files into the VIDEO_TS folder. The AUDIO_TS folder should be empty, this is just for DVD Video compliance. Insert blank disc into your dvd writer, click on speed and hit the red "go" button. That's it 8)

  18. Best program for DVD9>DVDR I've tried so far! (and I've tried them all). Super fast and reliable!!!!

  19. I have used dvd2one for the abyss, and noticed that it skips every so often, it continues to play fine, but there will be points of a 1 or 2 second pause, this has also happened with back to the future, I've redone them twice, in case it was due to mastering or burning of the disc, but it still persists, I have also tried it on different players and it persists.
    Quote Quote
  20. Ok, would it be a better in transcoding/picture res if you did this first before opening dvd2one?

    1. Smartripper go to the file section, checkmark the movie files, and other misc you need for a JUST MOVIE rip.

Then open ifo edit, and prerip/preprepare the other audios and subtitles you dont need and just get 1 audio and 1 subtittle, etc...

Then take the now smaller movie and follow the procedures you do in dvd2one?

Now, I know that dvd2one, allows you to choose which audio and sub you want and gets rid of the others, but since it does everything so fast, is it just using some mathimatical calculation of the filesize of the movie directory its downgrading?

Anyone notice a difference adding in that extra step?

For instance, you have a 7 gig movie with everything (same movie)
then you ripped all extras from ifoedit and its down to 5.3 gig (same movie)

and chose to rip each seperate directory through dvd2one.

I would imagine since you prepared yourself and got rid of all the extra audio and other features, dvd2one will now be focussed more on the movie res. more of a movie file instead of half in half without taking things out first.

    What do you thinK?

  21. That short skippng u notice in your movie is also noticeable when u copy in Ifo edit without re-encoding 2 one disc, so I don't think it's a fault with Dvd2one. The truth is that the software is exceptional and most of the critics r just zealous they couldn't come up with a more suitable program. hell, just the amount of paper & ink I used printing all these useless guides makes the 44 $ worth it!

This skipping is also noticeable in Ifo_edit with out re-encoding the movie.

  24. So is there a solution for the skipping? It takes twice as long just to go through ifoedit to create the ifos all over again. If there is a fix I'd like to know. Looks like another month or so and this will be resolved, it's only version 1 of DVD2one.

  30. Well i tryed DVD2ONE, and i must say its fast (even on my 3 years old 800mhz Athlon, 30 minutes for BLADE II) and the quality is very good.

But the advise to use a burning program other than NERO is a very good one !!!!!! After several times burning a DVD+RW with NERO , i finaly try-ed recordMax now v4.5, with good results. The toasted DVD runs now without a problem on my CyberHome 212 standalone player

So if your fresh burned NERO DVD will not run try ither burning software
