OK, I read the first few posts on this thread and I downloaded the trial version. Worked well enough to buy it. I don't think I'll be going back to the old way. Don't get me wrong. I learned a lot about different ripping, encoding and authoring methods. It's now time to get a life away from the search for the perfect copy. I'm gonna have a glass of wine with my wife and then help my kid with his homework. Thanks Erwin.

I agree with Both of you. How many times has this happened to you, it happened to me last night. I was going to let a movie reencode with TMPGencode last night like I often do. Being a bit tired setting it all up I must've transposed a number into my Bitrate calculator and the resulting reencode today was about 70 meg to large to fit on the disk. After 10 hrs I had to look at another 10 hrReencode. Not any longer. DVD2one is the best overall program around right now. What it saves in you sanity is Enormous

seriously. i just did Crouching Tiger (dark movie, looks awesome) and Aliens (very fast action, no blocks even in slo mo) to me, indistinguishable. I plan on not using TMPGEnc anymore except for home movies.

The way that I see all of this is that, TIME IS MONEY. Not only is CCE $2000 more expensive (for a legit copy), but I don't have the time to spend 12 hours encoding a DVD. I have many other things that I need my processing power for, not to mention a social life on top of that. I am sick and tired of setting up TMPGEnc to run an 8 hour encode overnight just to wake up and find out that it crashed within the first 15 min. With this program I don't care, if something goes wrong - which it hasn't yet, I have lost a whole 15 min - not 6 - 12 hours.
I just did a DVD2ONE encode of LOTR and was very, very impressed with the quality considering that it was cut to about 50% bit rate. I have a 30" 16:9 HDTV Monitor and from my normal sitting position (approx. 10 ft. away) I could barely tell the difference. My girlfriend had no clue. Even when zooming in and standing close, the difference was not worth bitching about - because I actually had free time to watch the movie.
The point is, I don't care if it is easy, call me a newbie - but I have paid my dues and the long way is complete BS for 5% better quality, at most. -

i am impressed and i see a very good future for this product. i think its going to have what we all want. Quality, speed, cost, and all the extras from an original dvd as well as one program to author and burn without the use of multiple programs and multiple steps to split files and extract audio from the video then remultiplex and all that other crap...this sounds to have it all in the future....
i think someone posted on page seven that the ordering server couldn't handle all the extra traffic...sounds to me like someone is going to have a very nice dinner tonight.... -
@ JamesL & DTWells2k2 :
Existence of DTS depends on ripping method:
If you rip using DVD2SVCD (internal routines - my favourite method), DTS audio DOES NOT GET RIPPED, but registers as existing in ripped ifo. So, when you fire up DVD2ONE, DTS is an option, but nothing gets encoded!
I have backed up two DTS movies (Back to the Future 1, The Bourne Identity) with DVD2ONE so far, one ripped using Smartripper, the other using DVD Decrypter, both working perfectly ok.
Well, not exactly 100% ok. I too can spot that rogue pixel on the upper left corner (when standing on my head, which makes it the lower right, sitting normally...) -

Arionos, I use DVD Decryptor usually, but sometimes SmartRipper. I too did Bourne Identity. I will try with that movie (was using something else before) and see what happens.

quote=JasonK I don't put 2.5 in the same category as 4.5. On my high end equipment with my encoding techniques, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the original and my backups (like looking out a window). The same is not true for DVD2one.
850 mhz , now thats high end -
OK.. I really apologize if I really made people feel bad by flaming them. I am probably an ass if that's what some people think.
All I'm trying to say is don't be too harsh on DVD2ONE. I think the quality is great for me and I don't see why people have to constantly bash on this new app. It was released recently and it's the first version.
It's hard to compare an enterprise application vs a personal application. You can't compare Microsoft Access to Oracle or DB2. They do the same thing but some will do better based on budget and ease of use.
If you like the quality CCE provides to you, that's quite alright and we have never really put down CCE as a product in terms of quality. On the contrary, it is not necessary to drive people away from a decent product.
I just think it's fair that if we can go out, at least some of us do, and buy a real expensive software, why not buy DVD2ONE since it only costs $40 and help make it a better product. I'm in no way associated with this product but just nice to give the smaller guys a chance to shine once in a while.
Enough and that's my 2 cents. -
having just scanned this thread...
how does this program re-encode a 2 hour movie in 20 minutes?
unless it does something like bit clip the file?

Have a problem with dvd2ONE, perhaps somebody could help:
I have tried 3 different films and the burnt movie won't play in my standalone. have burnt with recordnow max 4.5 (with tao closed and without joillet, tried also with joillet), burnt with nero (in DVD-Rom UDF-Mode, used UDF 1.02, and didn't work also). Don't know why it is not playing in my Standalone? When i use Davideo on DVD it works. I burn the compressed movie with recordnow max 4.5 and it works.
Perhaps i am doing something wrong with ripping?
This is what i do: I ripp the movie with dvd decrypter (using version 3.1
to my hd. I am ripping just the main movie and the video_ts.bup, the video_ts.ifo, the video_ts.vob and the vts_01_0.bup. I am using file mode in dvd-decrypter.
Then i put in the source (the created video_ts folder) in DVD2ONE and select output . I choose the language, the main movie, no subtitles.
DVD2ONE starts then to transcode and i get a new video_ts folder.
I create an empty AUDIO_TS folder and put it together with the new VIDEO_TS folder in Nero or recordnow max. It says, that it is burned succesfully, but the copies don't play in my standalone.
Perhaps i have to ripp the whole DVD and not only the main movie and the Video_ts files?
I made already 5 useless dvd's and one dvd-rw also.I can't use the dvd-r further, did't work anymore for backing up a video-dvd, don't know why
A help from anybody would be great.
TIA,
Patrick
PS: I am using a toshiba sd-r5002 and Intenso dvd-r's.patrick -
I've tried to buy DVD2ONE all day but mostly the site is either down or the "buy" area doesn't work.. I've tried the trial version and love it..along with reading 268 reviews about it. Any ideas about what the site problem is? Tnx

Also, does anyone know what they're doing to a 91min movie to make it 4.82gb??? after being stripped? I just started running into this, but I am new at this. Stripping using IFOedit works great but I've stripped a 126min movie and burned it onto a single disc. So something is going on that I dunno about or I need more schooling.

I did some comparisons of Salem's Lot last night, both on my PC and on my standalone player. It's not exactly a high action film and so I was hard put to find any scenes including high speed car chases or explosions. When scanning through the film I found a section that was set in a dark cavernous cellar which was full of old boxes and junk and so made up a complex scene. I found one frame in particular in which one of the characters started to run across the screen. I grabbed the frame from the original and from the DVD2One copy and did a compare by switching quickly between the images. Yes there was a difference, the cellar wall looked more mottled in the original and so had more obvious detail, everything else in the images looked identical. All the objects in the room looked equally sharp, no blocks were present. The arm of the on screen character which was "in motion", looked like a perfect representation of the original. On my TV (29" Sony 4:3) it looked as good as the original, and the "mottled wall" was much less noticable. I would be extremely surprised if there is anyone on this forum who would have been able to tell that they were watching a copy if they walked into a room playing this film. Now this impressed me because it sort of blows the theory about film length out of the window. From now on I'm simply going to use DVD2One for everything, even long films, and check out the results on an individual basis as content is obviously more important than length.
Mixed results with another test I did last night though. Backing up the full series of 'Blackadder Goes Forth" (6 episodes) which totalled around 2:54 and there were obvious differences between the DVD2One copy and the original when viewing on my PC. The image still looked good, but the copy definitely lost some sharpness compared to the original - I'll test the copy out on my standalone tonight to see how it looks through the TV. This is the only problem copy that I've done so far though which is still pretty good in my opinion. Like I said at first, I guessed that there'd be time when I would use other methods over DVD2One and depending how BA4 looks on my TV, this may be a time when I feel that I've got to. Is it still worth €39.99? Damn right it is! -
This app is awesome.
The setup I used to backup the DVD (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back PAL):
PIII 800EB
256Mb SDRAM
Pioneer A05
1 - I used DVD Decryptor to rip the vob files onto HDD (15mins)
2 - Used DVD2One to convert files (38mins)
3 - Used RecordNow MAX at 4x on Pioneer Media (15mins)
All up it took me around 1hr and 10mins to backup the movie. The quality is simply amazing. This is obviously because the movie itself is a little over 4.3Gb, so the re-encoded file still retains much of its quality. However its great because you dont have to use any bitrate calculators or anything. All in all, so far so good -
hi all i have bought dvd2one and i tell you its brill done saving private ryan and it come out very good indeed and dvd2one done it in 30 mins then used nero to burn at 1x speed and worked on my home dvd player
i would tell anyone who want to back up there dvds to buy this it is so easy and saves 7 hours to rencode a movie to fit on a dvd -
A couple of people have asked how I did Blackadder so I thought I post the procedure I used for multiple title sets here:
1- I ripped each individual episode in IFO Mode, turned on stream processing and demuxed the main video and AC3 audio parts only.
2- This left me with 6xM2V files and 6xAC3 files totalling around 7.7GB.
3- Fired up DVD Maestro and imported all these files as media assets.
4- MOVIE - Added each of the 6xM2V files in order onto the one time line of Maestro.
5- Right clicked on the 1st audio time line and select "Sync Audio Track"
6- I was then presented with a table showing the 6 M2V files I'd already added. Double clicked on each line in turn and selected the corresponding AC3 file. Set it off and a couple of minutes later I had a newly generated single AC3 file on the audio timeline comprising all 6.
7- CHAPTERS - To do this I right clicked on the second video on the time line and chose properties. This gave an exact start time of the second video. I noted this number and then clicked on the chapter line at approximately the correct place. I corrected the time to exactly match the start time of the second video. I did this for each of the episodes in turn. Because we're only talking about half hour episodes here I wasn't bothered about adding any further 'in between' chapters, one per episode is fine for me.
8- MENU - Did a simple menu from a screen dump of the original menu showing links to each of the 6 episodes. Inserted links from each button to the appropriate chapters that I created in the previous step.
9- Next I setup all the connections so that the menu was the first play item and linked the end action of chapter 1 ---> chapter 2 etc. Don't know if this step was required with it all being on one time line but I did it anyway to make sure.
10- Saved and compiled to a temporary directory on my HDD.
11- Checked with WinDVD to make sure that the compiled files worked as expected.
12- Let DVD2One do its thang!.
13- Deleted the movie VOBs from the Maestro created directory and copied the vobs from the DVD2One created directory over.
14- Ran IFOUpdate, selected the authored IFO, then the original IFO and gave a temporary location for the BAK backup file.
15- Checked again with WinDVD to check that the new files work as expected.
16- Checked the files weren't too large after the menu addition to fit on one DVD. If they are you can always copy the movie VOBs back to the DVD2One created directory and simply burn that instead, doing away with the menu.
And that's about it. If you don't want the menu then ignore section 8, setup the first play in Maestro to be chapter 1 of the movie and you can just burn to DVD after section 12.
I must admit that it'll be a damn site easier when Edwin adds the ability to copy multi title set DVDs to his program!! -

I just wonder if the results are just as blocky? It's not that I don't trust the poster of these images, but I haven't been able to get anything as bad as that so .. erm .. I suppose I don't trust him!
Thanks! -
