  1. There is not enough information on this site relating to DVD media. For instance I am struggling with making 3 movies fit one one DVD and there is no info relating to this. Most of the programs don't address this issue either. I spent almost 300 bucks for my first 8x CD writer years ago, and I only spent 200 on my DVD burner. Why can't there be a lil more info relating to this. Why have 2 disks a movie when you can have 3 movies on one disk that plays on your set top DVD.

Current problem, I can play a SVCD with a bitrate of 1600 and it runs smooth and great quality. I can rip a DVD and encode to mpg with a VBR of 1800 to 3500 and it plays great. Whenever I encode a DIvX I always end up with a 2.5GB file before it plays smoothly in my DVD player. ..... unless I play it on my 20" Apex combo that plays anything and it always plays it smooth..... Why can't i convert a DIvX to mpg without it getting over 2 GB.

  3. Musta been "back in the day". When I was 5.

How is fitting 3 Movies on 1 disc a problem?

    Decrypt movie 1 > DVD2AVI > TMPGEnc > Delete VOBs
    Decrypt movie 2 > DVD2AVI > TMPGEnc > Delete VOBs
    Decrypt movie 3 > DVD2AVI > TMPGEnc > Delete VOBs

Open up your burning program, add all the movies that you made, and presto, that wasn't that hard, just very time consuming, and crap quality .

  4. As for your DivX problem. Most hard drives have a 2gb limit of any file. Its just the way the hard drive is partitioned.

Why can't i convert a DIvX to mpg without it getting over 2 GB.

Conveting from DivX at a typical bitrate of 800 (for an average 1 disk 700Mb movie), will usually reesult in an MPEG - 2 to 3 times bigger depending on if you are making a VCD , xVCD or SVCD as these have higher bitrates
To stay below 2Gb reduce the bitrate .

  6. Oh boy got a hold of a VHS fan, must be cause 3 movies on DVD would look about like playing a VHS tape in the 6 hr mode, which alot of people do, why I have no idea, must like all that grain and fuzzy look, not to mention pixelation when moving over to the DVD format. God no wonder so many people want DVD's in stupid Pan and Scan, they are ex- VHS owners.

Don't knock PAN and Scan, not everyone has a widescreen tv.

Why did u pay 300 dollars for an 8x cd-rw. They r at 52x now for under 100 dollars.

Ur DVD burner burns CD's to.

  8. He paid that much because they were brand new.

    Then : New Technology = $300
    Now : New Technology = $200

Or he got sevearly ripped off.

As for not having a widescreen TV. I like to have the bars at the bottom and top, as long as I see the movie in its original format. I think any movie guru would.

  10. The point I was trying to make was that cd burners used to be as much as a DVD burner is now. There are lots of cheap DVD burners that work great. If we can assume this is true then why can't we focus on ways to use them! I can rip a DVD using DVD2avi and the quality is excellent and they are usually about 1600mb to 1900mb. I convert a Divx and they usually have to be about 2.2 to 2.4GB before they play smooth. I am using tmpgenc and the DVD option. If I use the SVCD option the quality is as good but they run choppy on my DVD player unless I author with Nero and THEN I can't use DVD media.

I can play .mpg in my dvd players. All I am trying to do is find a way to get smooth .mpg from Divx without inflating them as much. It may be that this is too much to ask... in which case I suppose 2 movies to a disk is okay, BUT for another problem. My Apex doesnt like udf format. This brings out another issue... my Apex will play 3 svcd .mpg files with bitrates of around 1600 or so and they look fine. Lol I guess I just need to make 2 copies of all my movies. One for each DVD player!

I'm confused? I have 4 different computers and they are all used occasionally when I am ripping and converting movies and need a place to store some .mpg. I have never had a problem with 2gb. It's the 4GB mark that requires my ntfs drive. The 2gb issue I am having is being forced to use the udf mode when burning the cd. This format wont play in my Apex. It plays fine in my Memorex and my RCA but not at all in my Apex. I have tried all the different modes as well.
