  1. I just downloaded Shanghai Noon (getting ready for Shanghai Knights) however, when I play it, I get the picture, but no sound. It's a DVD rip and in AVI format. I used TMPEG to convert a small portion to MPG, but there was still no sound. Is there a way I can see what codec I need to play the sound?

Test your system see what you have missing

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/135217.php

    Probably AC3
    http://www.moonlight.co.il/download.htm

Moonlight Odio Dekoda DirectShow® filter, binary (71,855 bytes, ZIP)

HTTP Download, U.S. Primary (it is recasting)
    HTTP Download, U.S. Secondary <<<<<<<<
    HTTP Download, Russia

    Also try this

    TMPGEnc
Options > Environmental settings > VFAPI plug-ins > Direct show multimedia file reader
Right click and select higher priorities
Do that several times until its at the top with a value of 4, or just below any Mpeg 3 filter

Would you extract the audio just to play it ?

  5. I've had films when just bunged into TMPGEnc have resulted in an output file with no sound what-so-ever.
When I extracted the audio (full processing mode) and re-encoded the files together, it has worked.

  7. having re-read the 1st post I see your point - just ignore me waffling on (to the person who 1st asked the question)

I guess if it has no audio on your pc then maybe it's a codec issue or something similar.

I'm sure KJ will point you in the right direction
