Topic title says it all.Whats a good brand thats as cheap as other common 700MB media around? And how come more companies like memorex don't have 99 Min CD-Rs yet?

Also when it comes to Mpegs, i believe up to 800MB can be burned onto a 700MB CD-R.So if you had a 870MB CDR,does that mean 100MB extra could be burned to it as well? Resulting in 970MB?

Due to this, I would be surprised if major manufacturers would produce and support it. A good source for this stuff was CompUSA. I recently read that they have discontinued selling it because of too many complaints.

You can do a search and find lots of sellers of generics, and lots of opinions.

I have a pile of them and have had mixed luck. Burning was never really a problem, given the right software (CDRWin worked well) and a compatible drive. But don't fill em up, label them, scratch them, heat them, or look at them wrong or you may have trouble getting them to play nicely. Actually, I'm in now in the camp with the DataLife and Kodak people. Buy the good stuff if you want it to last.

I do recall that you definitely can not set a chapter point after the 80min mark (size not time in movie), or you can not get there. Not a big deal but this shows the stretch these things do.

  3. Wow,

For kicks I did a search on 99-minute support and got some great stuff.

Take a look at this link and get Feurio's support opinion:
    http://www.feurio.com/English/faq/faq_writer_99mincdr.shtml

Here's a juicy quote: The page has some blah blah techie details to back it up:

Apart from the track which is inevitably too narrow on 99 minute CD-Rs (And thus the problem that many CD players can't even find the track and thus when playing the CD back may "jump") there are several much more serious problems:
By the way, this is about audio. Video has a bit more demanding bitrate.

Don't let me throw water on your adventure, but consistently play good for and extended period of time is gonna be tough.

  4. I use CompUSA branded disks. I don't think they make them anymore, but there is a surplus available on eBay. I've never had a coaster when making XSVCDs, but I did get a couple when backing up dreamcast games.
    Sometimes, ya just gotta.....umm, what's the word........FART???

  6. i've used compusa 99 minute cd-r's.. i've had very few reasons to use them.. but i have like 20 blanks.. i've never had a problem burning them with my hp 12x cd-rw.. and the only device i've found that will not read the is my laptops dvd-rom drive.. but 2 dvd players, 5 cd-rom's, a dreamcast, & a dvd-rom i've had will read them.. so i dont imagine there is much of a problem reading them. but you've got to take extra special care of them.. and i would defiently not reccomend using them for anything super important.
