  1. Hi, I've got a nice collection of coasters now and could really use some help making backups of my DVD movies.. I've tried numerous guides, checked out most if not all of the forum topics but I just seem to get a nice round tabletop protectors for hot beverages.. Here's what I do...

    1. Use Smart Ripper to extract the .vob files to hard drive

    2. Use ifo edit to create .ifo .bup etc etc

    3. Use Nero to burn a coaster

I've also tried converting to mpeg2 and using authoring software like MyDVD, Ulead workshop etc and tried several different formats on burning in Nero UDF 1.02 et al, I seem to get the same results each time.. I've tried different media at different speeds and 2 separate DVD burners. I'm currenty using a Pioneer A05, the image before burning can be opened by Power DVD and plays fine, even when it's on disc it works in the PC but on a standalone, not a chance, I either get a No Disc or Disc Error or some other obscure messages.. Have tried all the discs on several standalones (different makes and models) but to no avail. Tried both DVD+R and now using DVD-R on the Pioneer, there must be a foolproof way for me to do it but I haven't found one and it's getting a pretty expensive hobby If anyone can help or make suggestions to any settings that I can change please help.. I'm at a loss as to what to do next.. Any help would be appreciated.. thanks

  2. If you mount the image to view in Powerdvd. Why not just do a DVD copy in Nero from the mounted image to your DVD Burner. That works for me everytime.

  4. first, my suggestion is to get dvd-rw so it won't be as expensive as you can re-use them and if you were successfull then you can just do a dvd copy on you burning software. Try the turtorial here: http://www.dvd2dvdr.com..it is really good...

    just my .02 cents

  5. Oki so have you get VTS sectors in IFO edit? Otherwise it will not play on any standalone player!

Nero can be the problem so try RecordNow MAX!!!

  7. I suspect that Nero is the problem. What I do is:

    1) Rip DVD
    2) Use IFOEdit to make new VOBs/IFO files
    3) Make disc image w/ IMG Tools (can d/load from doom9.org)
    4) Burn image with DVD Decryptor

More than likely Nero is burning the discs in UDF 1.05, if you must use Nero see the author links to the left on how to force nero to burn in UDF 1.02

But serious stay the f&ck away from nero for all x(S)VCDs and/or DVD burning.

Tell us what kind of coasters you have first. If you have coasters because the movie doesn't play after around 60 to 70 minutes do the stuff below for me. If your movie simply gives your machine an error it is probably a burning problem and associated with Nero.

Do me a favor. I am trying to prove something and you may be able to help. Take a your ripped VOBs and put them in DVD2AVI. Click the middle of the movie as the start. Go up and hit Option -> Preview.
Now come back and post what you see in the frame rate and video type boxes.

I was just curious what stand alone's you are getting the disc errors on. I have a couple of panasonic's that are real picky. I assume you are doing a stright rip and flip no encoding?
