I'd do this by re-encoding using TMPG applying a colour filter. This lets you alter Brightness, Contrast and Gamma as well as letting you muck about with the colours if you really want to.

    Hope this helps.

  4. it doesnt have to do with my screen. i ripped other dvds and there wasnt a problem with it. its the video itself i want too make brighter.
IJM if i use tmpgenc wont that convert the avi to mpeg, or will it stay as the same format i want to keep it as? i want to keep it an avi. isnt there a way to do it in Gordian Knot? i though Gordian Knot did almost everything

Ah, keep it as an AVI, eh?

Okay. I can't answer your question about Gordian Knot because this is the first time I've even heard of it. But...

I've had a quick look in VirtualDub and found the built-in filters which includes "brightness/contrast" (I've never used them before, you see). So, you could pass the AVI through that. The downside is that depending on what CODEC your AVI uses, it's possible that you could potentially lose some quality as it decompresses and recompresses the video stream.

    Does this help?

  6. I don't think you can make it brighter without re-encoding. But next time use VirtualDub to rip and apply filters to make it bright, smooth, ect.., before you encode to avoid these problems. Gordian Knot is just a collection of tools, one being VirtualDub. In fact I believe that VirtualDub (or NanDub) does the encoding for Gordian Knot.

  7. i know that i'm goint to have to re-encoding it. i dont want to do it for this avi, i want to make another one and that one should be brighter. virtualdub does do the encoding but there isnt any settings i can change for virtualdub when Gordian Knot uses it. so i have to change the settings in Gordian Knot to make it brighter. thats what i want to know, how do i make it brighter next time i encode it with Gordian Knot?

  8. Next time don't use Gordian Knot. You have alot more control if you use the programs by them selves, resulting in better rips altogether. VirtualDub, 2pass DivX 5.0.2, works very well for me. Even my 1CD rips kick the pants off those DOMiNiON (Downloaded) DVDRips.
