  1. I'm new and want to take vhs (8mm) videos from sony camcorder & make dvds. I just purchased the Sony DRU500A DVD burner. I now need a "capture card" I guess. I would also like to create slideshow presentations & burn to "dvds" to give to family. I researched some products and found the Canopus ADVC-100 to be the best product. Will this device allow me to do both videos as well as take current jpgs & mpgs for slideshows to dvd or will some software do that for me and the Canopus ADVC-100 only for videos? Any recommendations for hardware/software would be appreciated. Sorry, I can't be an expect at everything

The Canopus ADVC-100 is a sensible choice and well favoured by users.
It is an external piece of hardware, so you will need a Firewire card in your PC to connect it to your PC.

You will then need some capturing software. Refer Capture link to the left and section on capturing DV. This will take care of your 8mm and import it to your PC as AVI.

For JPG & MPG, I assume these are already on your PC, so ADVC-100 is not required (AVDC-100 captures from external sources)

You can take the JPG, MPG & AVI from above and create DVDs. Refer to the Convert and Author links to the left.

Recommended software is contained in those links, and under the Tools link. Also check out the User Guides in the Forum.

    Good luck & enjoy!
