virtualdub & compression problems :(

hi all

when i start up virtualdub 1.4.13 and go to video---->compression it lists all the different compression things i have eg. picvideo,huffyuv etc (about 17 in total)

the problem is when i go to file---->capture avi------>video---->compression it only displays about 4 compression things in there and i don't use any of those 4

any idea why?

When capturing, VirtualDub filters out any codecs from the selection list that cannot be used with your current capture settings and capture hardware.

Some codecs on your PC are used only for de-coding and can't be used for capture. Others will only work if compatible capture settings are selected.

For example HUFFY will only work if you capture in 24bit RGB or YUY2.

Try changing the settings and note the effect on the codec list.

Yes, VDub is looking first the colordepth You using during capture.
When you selected YUV for example you can only compress with the codecs thats understands YUV and also VDub displays only these codecs.

BTW use RGB24 for the best quality.

that's exactly what the problem was......i didn't have it set to rgb or yuy
