    Hi there,

I posted before but I'm still having some troubles so I try to ask you a precise question. Hope you can answer

I have an ATI ALL IN WONDER 8500DV (with latest driver updates) and need to convert some VHS to DivX. What's the best way to capture ? I heard of AVI, but I need to capture a 2 hours video, and I've got only 35 GB free on my HD. I've got MMC 7.7 to capture. Thanks in advance !

  2. ATI captures directly to mpeg2; this will save you some hard drive space. Crack open the ATI manual (or download one from their website), and follow their instructions.

I tried to capture directly to MPEG-2, but I've got always some troubles. Even with DVD preset option, even if I make a 720x576 capture with max bitrate (15.00 Mbps) and 100 motion detection, capture isn't smooth as the source is. Any tip for this ? Thanks in advance.

Capture it in portions if you are running out of space. Capture with a losless Codec such as Huffy or PicVideo then resize and convert that to the MPG or DivX.

Then delete the AVI and start with the next portion. Then combine the DivX video later. I've never done DivX before, can you combine them like you can with MPG's? Anyone?

GET MORGAN MULTIMEDIA MJPEG CODEC CAPTURE VIDEO FROM VCR AT 480 BY 240 OR 400 BY 240 DEPENDING ON YOUR PROCESSOR,YOU SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH SPACE FOR 2 HR CAP. LOAD INTO VIRTUAL DUB SYNC AUDIO IF YOU WANT TO ADD FILTERS YOU CAN AND RESIZE TO.IM NOT SURE IF YOU WANT A DIVX MOVIE OR VCD IN THE END.I USE MORGAN CODEC FOR ALL CAPTURE'S THAT I PLAN TO CONVERT.

VIRTUAL DUB WILL JOIN AVI'S OF THE SAME PARAMETERS...LOAD VIDEO SELECT APPEND THEN LOAD SECOND VIDEO...THEN SELECT DIRECT STREAM COPY AND SAVE NE FILE

  9. Manub,

Huffy is a great way to caputure and preserve quality...however it does seem to eat up alot of CPU and IDE bandwith. An option you can try is capture at a slightly lower resolution than full D1 (720x480) perhaps maybe 6xx or 4xx X 480. This may help ease the strain and keep the audio in synch..... you can always resize when you convert it to whatever resolution you are going to be watching at, and if you find the right capture res you shouldnt notice any qaulity degradation.

    goodluck

  10. I think the best way to capture from VHS source is >>>

    AVI using Huffy codec

352x576 (PAL) and then Encode the AVI file using TMPGEnc .... and by this way you'll get something I call (DVCD) or Neer DVD Quality . 8)

Most DVD's can't handle that high a bitrate anyhow.
    Try video bitrate at 8000.
I get good results with that.
