    Hi,

I'm trying to get a 110 min vhs film onto 1 CDR. I captured it using virtualdub and using the guides on here. I ended up with a 20gig file. I then used to bitrate calc and got the required bitrate to get it onto 1 CD. But I ended up with a file in excess of 1 gig.

Do I need to use vbr instead of cbr and put the bitrate in there? I tried to divx the file first, but obviously applying compression to a compression won't work.

The audio is still at PCM full quality - can I compress that down and it still be able to be burnt onto a vcd? I had probs with nero rejecting my mpeg files.

Please help! This is the 5th time I've tried encoding this! That's 5 hours a time!!!! I thought I had a weekend here somewhere.

    Thanks.

This is a little confusing. What are you aiming for?
If you want to create a VCD, you have to encode to MPEG-1.
I guess, you encoded with VirtualDub to whatever(?), the calculation failed probably, because the audio is still uncompressed.

I'm trying to get this whole 110 min file ontop 1 vcd.

I left the audio compression at none when I did the calc, yet it still came out at over a gig when I encoded it.

I'm not sure if I've missed a setting or something.

Any help would be great right now!

    OK, some basic information.
    VCD is MPEG-1 video 1150 kbps (constant bitrate), MPEG-1 Audio Layer-2 / 44100 kHz / 224 kbps.
This means, you can fit up to 74min video on a 74 min CD-R.
Everything off these specs is XVCD or a complitly different format. I guess this is the point here.
You should give some more details, otherwise it might be impossible to help you out.

Ah, sorry - I see what u mean now.

Right - I understand that you can only have 1150/224 kps as a VCD and therefore only 74 mins. So yes, I am trying to create an XVCD or an XSVCD, so I can fit all 104 mins onto 1 74/80min CDR. Sorry - I'm just getting my head round this.

So I got the avi or the divx file, whichever, it doesn't matter cause I've had the same result with both. I have selected the VCD template in TMPEGenc, then used the unlock function and lowered the video bitrate and the audio bitrate to what the bitrate calc worked out I needed - which was Mpeg 1: 750kbit/s for video and 128kbit/sec for audio. I then encoded it.

The file size then came out at 1.1gig not the under 800 meg I expected. Do I have to encode it at mpeg2 and increase the pixels to 720x576 as is said on http://www.vcdhelp.com/xvcd.htm ?

The original capture is at 352 x 288.

Sorry for protracting this, but I'm really kinda stumped. I've been reading the site for days, and I just can't seem to understand why this is not coming out at the file size I expect. My DVD player will play SVCD and XVCD according to comparison chart on here.

    Thanks in advance.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal or should I be able to get this mpeg under 800mb? Or

I used FitCD to calculate 110min movie to fit on 1 80minCD. It says video868 and audio 128. FitCD calculate bitrates very accuratly and it never failed for me.
Did you set stream type to MPEG-1 Video-CD?
Since your capture is 352x288, you should use MPEG-1 / 352x288.

Yeah - That's pretty much what mine says. Yeah I'm using Mpeg1 Video stream type, 352x288, 4:3 625 line PAL, 25fps, CBR, bit rate 680 (yeah that low!) VBV buffer size 40.

The audio is Mpeg1-Audio Layer II, 44100hz, stereo, 128kbits/sec.

It still comes out at over a gig!

The only thing I can think of is that I've already compressed it to divx and it's having trouble with the divx compression? Any other thoughts before I abandon it?

I thing it does not matter, if the source is DivX, uncompressed or whatever.
With "stream type" I meant: Select the system tab> MPEG-1 Video-CD (not MPEG-1 System (automatic)).
This is the only thing I can imagine.
I am not experienced with that low bit mpegs. But I know, homerpez do that too and he had similar problems, but seem to fix it.Search the forum or contact him.
